Portable Equipment for Collecting Excreta on an Out-Patient Basis

Description: As part of a clinical study of patients who received radium chloride orally and paronterally approximately 20 to 30 years ago, it was necessary to collect separate urine and fecal specimens in order to establish the coefficient of elimination for radium still present in the body. The most economical way was to have the patients collect the samples at home. The equipment designed for home collection may be used for collecting excreta in similar studies on an out-patient basis, or may be installe… more

A Self-Delayed Coincidence Circuit

Description: On the assumption that the light pulses from the light guide of a scintillation counter consist of single, widely separated photons, it should be possible to reject them by counting only pulses, with some loss of counting efficiency. An alternate approach is to use a light-splitter, dividing the light between two photomultipliers in coincidence. Many variations of light splitters were tried.
