Savannah River Biological Survey, South Carolina And Georgia: June 1951 - May 1952. Final Report For E.I. DuPont De Nemours And Company, Savannah River Plant

Description: The Limnology Department of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia made a study of the aquatic life of the Savannah River in the vicinity of the Savannah River Plant of the Atomic Energy Commission at the request of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. The purpose of this survey was to establish an objective measure of the aquatic life of the river between Mile 134-175 and of Upper Three Runs so that any significant effect of the industrial or sanitary wastes could be determined in the f… more

Separation of Tuballoy From Tantalum by Chlorination Distillation Process

Description: Abstract: Tuballoy can be effectively separated from tantalum filaments by chlorination of the filaments and subsequent distillation and condensation of tantalum chloride. Apparatus for chlorination of filaments and distillation separation in one unit is under consideration. Chemical methods of separation of tuballoy from distillation residues are being tested.

Calculation of k-o in a Uranium-Graphite Lattice

Description: Since the 25 content of the uranium to be used in a MTA multiplying lattice is quite uncertain at present, it is necessary to assume various degrees of depletion in order to estimate the multiplication constant K-o and the production of 49 in an infinite uranium-graphite lattice

Intermediate Heat Exchanger Preliminary Design. Vol. 1, IHX Preliminary Design

Description: Preface: The intermediate heat exchanger is designed for operation in a nuclear power plant using liquid sodium as the primary and secondary coolant. Since the primary fluid coming from the reactor is radioactive, the purpose of the IHX is to transfer heat to a nonradioactive fluid which then goes to a steam generator. Because of this activity the until will be enclosed in a concrete pit and will not be accessible during periods of operation. Immediately after shut down it will be necessary … more

Evaluation of Kanigen, Electroless Nickel Plating for Steam Side of a Sodium Component Steam Generator

Description: Introduction: This is a final report on the evaluation of Kanigen electroless nickel plating for surfaces in contact with water and steam i a sodium heated AISI Type 316 stainless steel steam generator. The purpose of the coasting was to afford protection from stress corrosion cracking originating on the water-steam side of the unit. It has been concluded that the kanigen coating does not afford adequate protection for the services condition intended. This work was performed as part of the r… more

Effect of Irradiation of Solid Catalysts

Description: The work done during this period continued along the same lines as outlined in the first two quarterly reports. The catalysts irradiated this period all received a beta radiation dose of 200 megarads, ten times that given the catalysts previously. At this dosage, some changes in catalytic activity were observed.
