Absorption of Organic Acids on Thoria

Description: The adsorption of acetic and oleic acids on the surface of thoria was studied by means of infrared spectroscopy. An infrared analysis of the adsorbates before and after adsorption using differential double bean methods indicated that the adsorption of organic acids on thoria surfaces occurs by an esterification reaction between the organic acid and the hydroxylated thoria surface. Ammonia vapor will not adsorb on thoria, indicated the basic character of the hydroxylated surface.

Airborne Reconnaissance in Southwestern Arkansas

Description: Introduction: Reconnaissance for uranium in central and southwestern Arkansas was carried out as a joint project of the U.S. Atomic energy Commission and the U.S. Geological Survey during March and May 1954. Analytic Approach for the Pion-Proton Scattering Phase Shifts

The Chlorination of TO₃

Description: Abstract: The applicability of specific mixtures and organic chlorocarbons in general toward the chlorination of TO₃ has been tested by means of reactions is sealed glass tubes. The results show that thionyl chloride mixed with tetrachloroethylene or a bromothane of the tyoe CHBrC12 will produce TCI4 directly. This same result is produced by CBr2C12 alone.
