Direct Current Electromagnetic Pumps

Description: Abstract: "A number of direct current conduction type electromagnetic pumps for liquid metals were constructed. Pumping capacities of over 400 gpm and efficiencies of over 50 percent were obtained. NaK alloy at temperatures up to 400 C was used in the test. The large currents required were obtained from rectifiers or from a homopolar generator constructed for the purpose."

Static Corrosion Tests of Fabrication Material for D-12 Waste Evaporator

Description: Three types of stainless steel (309 SCB, Carpenter 20, 304-L) were exposed to both the liquid and vapor phase of each of three types of solutions. The time of exposure totaled ten days during which the specimens were cleaned and weighed periodically. The three synthetic D-12 waste solutions contained respectively chrome-high chloride, chrome-low chloride and high chloride sans chromium. The solutions were renewed at each weighing.

A Study of Location Times for Positions Arranged on a Panel in a Random and an Ordered Manner

Description: The results of an experimental pilot study on the location time, for a sequence of N specified positions on a panel, are given for 1 <_ N <_ 30. The positions to be located were randomly arranged on one set of panels and arranged according to an ordering scheme on a second set of panels. Th location time for N positions randomly arranged on a panel varies approximately as N(2). In the case of an order arrangement the location time is essentially proportional to N. Even for as few as 30 position… more

A Needle in a Haystack

Description: Abstract: "Production of [rho]'s and [omega]'s in [pi]- + p and p + [letter p with a bar over it] interactions is discussed. The [rho] is presumably a J = 1-, 1 = 1 state and thus can decay into 2[pi]'s via a strong coupling. The [omega] is probably J = 1-, 1 = 0 which can also decay into 2[pi]'s via electromagnetic coupling. A theoretical description of this situation is presented in terms of coupled time-dependent Schroedinger equations which mix [rho] and [omega] states that are assumed to b… more

Flux Distributions and Critical k [infinity] Values for Cylindrical Reactors Simulation the MTR

Description: From summary: "In order to estimate the effect of placing bismuth and thorium layers near the MTR core, radial flux distributions and k[infinity] values were calculated for cylindrical reactors having cylindrical layers of these materials of the same height as the core and beryllium reflector and placed either next to the core or embedded in the beryllium reflector."

Study of Metal-1.10-Phenanthroline Complex Equilibria by Potentiometric Measurement

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The silver-1,10-phenanthroline system has been studied and the stability constants determined for the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes using the silver electrode. This known system was then used to study the complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline with other metals. The log βn values found for the over-all stoichiometric stability constants are as follows: Ag, 5.02, 12.07; Mn, 3.88, 7.04, 10.11; Cd, 5.93, 10.52, 14.30; Zn, 6.83, 12.05, 16.92. Vapor Traps for Handling Liquid Sodium

Description: An active program is a present underway to develop equipment to handle liquid metals. Among the metals being studied are sodium and sodium--potassium alloy (the latter commonly referred to as NaK). In many of the systems being studied this liquid metal is pressurized by inert gas in the lines. At times it is necessary to bleed off some of this gas from the system. Although the gas is allowed to escape at a temperature at which the vapor pressure of sodium is extremely small, it has been found t… more
