Primary Plant Control and Instrumentation. Section I. Test Results DL-S-125, T-550079

Description: The purpose of the test was to determine if the main coolant pump stator and bearing water temperature monitors and the "Primary Coolant Pump Noise Monitors" operate properly. The 1A, 1B and 1C pump bearing water temperature monitors operated satisfactorily. It is believed that the data for the 1D Bearing Water Temperature shown in Table I should be tabulated ad 1D stator temperature. This discrepancy is clarified in the note on Table I. The 1A and 1C pump stator temperature monitors operate s… more

The Input Admittance of a Ring Circuit

Description: "A ring circuit is a succession or two-port networks and at least one three-port network, each feeding the next at one port and the last feeding the first so that the sequence closes on itself leaving at least one input port. The input admittance is derived in terms ef various matrices describing the circuit for one- and two-input port rings."

Extension of Operating Life of KAPL-30 Thimble

Description: In June of 1957, the KAFL Pressure Systems and Pressure Vessels Review Board completed their evaluation of the radiation damage to the KAPL-30-4 carbon steel thimble. The Board decided that it was safe to extend the operating life of the thimble from 9 to 16 MIM cycles, subject to review if further extended low temperature operation occurs. This memorandum summarizes the data and evaluation which were the basis for the decisions and recommendations of the KAPL Pressure Systems and Pressure Vess… more

Comparison of Fedal Monitor Readings With Radiochemical Sample Data

Description: The purpose of this test is to compare specific isotopic fission product activities with those of the neutron emitters which are monitored by the FEDAL System, and to obtain further information on the source of the unusual activity observed in the PWR reactor coolant.

Thermodynamic Properties of Carbides at High Temperatures

Description: Thermodynamic properties of the carbide or carbon saturated phases of Ti, Zr, U and Cr are not known accurately. Available data have been summarized by Brewer et al., and some recent measurements have been reported by Chupka and his associates. The purpose of this investigation is to obtain reliable data on the vapor pressures of metals in equilibrium with their carbides by means of graphite Knudsen cells. From the resulting data, the related thermodynamics properties can be calculated.

A Study of the Mechanism of Radiation Induced Gelation in Monomer-Polymer Mixtures

Description: "Additional mixtures of polymers and multi-unsaturated monomers have been prepared, irradiated and the gel content determined. The gel content determination of crosslinked polyolefins has been investigated in detail. The multi-unsaturated monomers used and radiation conditions applied up to this time have not given significant gel contents for polypropylene. the polypropylene resin used has been characterized by differential extraction."

Conical Refraction in Crystal Optics and Hydromagnetics

Description: When light propagates with the wave normal in the direction of an optic axis of a biaxial crystal, the usual ray theory breaks down. This phenomenon can be analyzed by means of an asymptotic solution of Maxwell's equations. The intensity is governed by a partial differential equation within the phase surfaces, instead of ordinary differential equations along rays. This example slows that light does not always propagate along rays. A similar phenomenon occurs in hydromagnetics.

Metallurgical Laboratory, Chemical Research - Analytical, Graphite Purity Research Program

Description: Abstract. Chemical analytical studies of graphite raw materials have revealed new sources of petroleum cokes and pitches of greater purity than those previously used in the manufacture of project graphite. The use of these raw materials of exceptional purity has resulted in an improvement in k of the order of one per cent as compared with the AGOT-AGNT graphite typical of the previous production. A study of the graphitizing process has shown that no dangerous impurities are introduced in the… more
