On the Dynamic Design of Non-Regenerative Transistor Circuits : Report No. 94

Description: In this technical report, firstly, the transfer function of a non-regenerative, base-driven transistor circuit is derived by applying the linear equivalent circuit method. The results are experimentally verified. Secondly, the idea of the inverse-gain-bandwidth is introduced as the criterion of the dynamic design. Thirdly, the stability factor is explained. Finally, it is shown that a system constructed by various types of transistor switching circuits is reduced to a long train of unit chains … more

Reaction of Graphic with Sodium

Description: Most of the publications in the open literature available to us agree that sodium does not readily react with graphite, though potassium, rubidium, and cesium readily enter between the planes of the graphite lattice. In view of the conflicting evidence available, it seems inadvisable without very extensive further study to consider the use of graphite in direct contact with liquid sodium, except under very mild conditions of temperature and irradiation, and then only with very pure sodium and c… more

The U + 4 - U02 ++ Couple in H2SO , and the U + S - u + 4 Couple in HCl

Description: Technical report: Measurements have been made on the equilibrium between Cu, Cu2+, U4+, and UO22+ in H2SO4 in an attempt to establish the value of the U4+ - UO22+ couple potential. The value of the formal potential for the U3+ - U4+ couple in 1N HCl at 0 degrees C was determined to be + 0.65 v.

Examination of Donut on Rupture Slug No. 14

Description: Pursuant to Dr. Kingdon's request for specific information concerning the donut pictured on pages 26-29 of WAPD-64, a close examination of this defect on Failure No. 14 was made. The slug was examined through 10 inches of Pb-glass and photographs were made. A clay impression of the surface area containing the donut was obtained, and using this impression, an Armstrong's Adhesive replica of this can wall surface area was cast.

Sid Magnet Model Test Results

Description: From introduction: "These data were taken on a 1/16th scale model of the magnet shown on sketch no. FS-2. The object of these measurements was to get information that would determine the final design of the full scale magnet. The one main point to be settled was whether a tapered or a cylindrical pole piece would give the largest value of Hρ for a given power input into the magnet (the cylindrical pole piece is shown in dotted lines in sketch FS-2)."

The Mass Spectra of Some Volatile Hydrides

Description: From abstract: "The hydrides of group VB an VB elements, except CH4 and NH3, have been prepared and, except for PbH4 and BiH3, their mass spectra studied. Fragmentation patterns and appearance potentials of the positive ions from these hydrides are reported. The ions have been tested for excess kinetic energy and this energy was found to be negligible. The average M-H bond energies and the ΔHf° obtained from appearance potential data agree well with values obtained by other methods. Evidence is… more

The Application of Wax Laps to Vibratory Polishers

Description: From introduction: "In this paper the adaptation of the wax lab surface vibratory polisher is described. The wax lap requires little maintenance during the life of the lap. It is not necessary to remove any of the holding devices on the bowl to clean and recondition the lap. The bowl is merely washed out, recharged and placed in operation. The wax lap will not wrinkle or tear, nor is it necessary to change it each day such as the silk or nylon cloths."

Elastic Analysis of Stress Conditions in a Reduction Bomb (Task III Replacement Pressure Vessel Model-1302)

Description: Several failures have occurred in reduction bombs used in metal production operations. A test program is being initiated to evaluate new metals for the construction of the bomb. In the test program, a tensile specimen is cycled through temperatures simulating operating temperatures, and the time to rupture is recorded in order to estimate the life in operation of a reduction bomb made with the candidate metal. In order to find the worst stress condition, the compressive, hoop, and bending st… more

Coulometric Determination of Phosphate

Description: The conventional volumetric micro-determination of phosphate depends upon the precipitation of phosphomolybdate, filtration and washing of the precipitate, and titration with standard base. The method is slow and tedious, subject to many interferences, and is not applicable to samples containing less than 1-2 mg of phosphate. Other weak acid anions, such as carbonate or acetate, interfere in the method. Strong acid anions, such as nitrate, sulfate, and chloride do not interfere.

Feasibility of a Liquid Phase Chemonuclear Ozone Process

Description: At the Chemonuclear Workshop held at Brookhaven National laboratory in November 1962 it was pointed out that the production of ozone from oxygen by a liquid phase fission fragment chemonuclear process appears to have reasonable economic potential. The maximum theoretical reaction yield for the formation of ozone from oxygen is a "G" value of 68 molecules for 100 ev based on heat of reaction data. The authors felt a "G" value of 15 to be reasonable for this study. the reactor system chosen has l… more

Hazards Report for the SM-1 Core II Without Special Components

Description: Abstract: This technical report describes the changes incurred in the SM-1 by the insertion of the SM-1 Core II without special components. The SM-1 Core II components were made to specifications very nearly identical to those of SM-1 Core I. The differences consist of europium absorber sections, internal europium flux suppressors in the control rod fuel elements, and low impurity cladding. Each of the SM-1 Core II components with the exception of the five absorber sections new in SM-1 Core … more

A Countercurrent Solid-Liquid Contactor for Continuous Ion Exchange

Description: From abstract: "A continuous countercurrent solid-liquid contactor has been developed which retains the desirable features of the conventional fixed bed and gains the advantages of countercurrent flow. It can be adapted to many solid-liquid mass-transfer processes such as ion exchange, silica gel adsorption, and ore leaching."

A Bond-Cell Method for Complex Molecules and Metals

Description: This technical report introduces "some approximations into the basic quantum mechanical theory" so that the theory of the covalent bond and the molecular orbital method "can be combined into one which will yield quantitative rather than qualitative binding energies and cohesive energies and also distinct energy levels and band structure." This approach will provide a common method "suitable to both solid state physicists and physical chemists, for calculating the energy levels in metals and com… more
