An Investigation of the Chattanooga Black Shale of Tennessee as a Source of Uranium Progress Report: July 1, 1956-June 30, 1957

Description: From introduction: The primary aim of this study is to present as complete a geologic picture as possible, of the Chattanooga shale in its outcrop area of the Eastern Highland Rim and the Northern Highland Rim of Tennessee and adjacent Kentucky. Special emphasis has been placed upon the stratigraphic relationships and their implications upon the age and manner of origin of the sediments and upon the origin, source, and distribution of uranium in the shale.

The Chattanooga Shale of Tennessee as a Source of Uranium: Final Report

Description: From major objective: The over-all aim of the study has been to obtain a thorough geologic picture of the Chattanooga shale in the area under consideration, with emphasis upon stratigraphic relationships and associated special problems from which, in turn, implications may be obtained as to the origin and age of the formation and possibly the source of the uranium. The study has not been aimed primarily at exploration for uranium and its economic aspects.

Mineralogy of Uranium-Bearing Deposits in the Boulder Batholith, Montana, Annual Report: April 1, 1953-March 31, 1954

Description: Introduction: During the year 1952-1953, research on the Boulder batholith program was largely devoted to basic mineralogy studies of the "siliceous reef" and, to the extent possible at that time, the "base metal" deposits.

Investigation of Uranium Deposits, Anderson Mine and Adjacent Properties, Yavapai County, Arizona

Description: From abstract: A team consisting of R. A. Lindblom, S. A. Mayer, R. G. Young, W. L. Chenoweth, R. F. Droullard, and I. T. Fisk made a reexamination of the Anderson mine (Uranium Aire) of Interstate Oil and Development located near Wickenberg in Yavapai County, Arizona. The field examination was made from August 22, 1958 to September 2, 1958. This team was formed to resolve differences between company and AEC ore reserve estimates. A cooperative effort in which the company supplied labor, limite… more

Hydrogeochemical and Stream-Sediment Survey (NURE): Preliminary Report on the Walker River Basin Study (California/Nevada)

Description: From introduction: The objective of this survey is to develop a geochemical data base for use by the private sector to locate regions of anomalous uranium content. Prior to wide area coverage, several pilot studies are being undertaken to develop and evaluate sampling and analytical techniques. The first of these studies was conducted in the Walker River Basin.

The Effects of Chemical Impurities on the Quality of Rolled Uranium Rod

Description: Abstract: "Thirty-four uranium ingots containing controlled amounts of carbon, nitrogen, and Mgl2 slag were cast, rolled, and examined to investigate the relation between these impurities and the quality of the rolled rod. Carbon in concentrations up to 1400 ppm and nitrogen up to 170 ppm, either singly or in combination, had no significant effect on the number of defects observed in the rolled rod. The quality of the rods, however decreased with increasing amount of slag necessary to cause obs… more

Progress Relating to Civilian Applications During September, 1958

Description: A report about thermal-conductivity and electrical-resistivity measurements made on a uranium-1.5 w/o zirconium alloy surrounded by NaK enclosed in a Zircaloy-2 capsule which were in poor agreement with measurements made directly on a uranium-1.5 w/o zirconium specimen.

Progress Relating to Civilian Applications During April, 1956

Description: A report about elevated-temperature properties of dilute uranium-aluminum and uranium-zirconium alloys. Hot-hardness measurements show that small amounts of wither aluminum or zirconium increase the hardness of uranium at elevated temperatures.
