Calculation of the G Factor for Gas Scattering Experiments

Description: The "G factor'' relating the yield to the beam intensity, target density, and scattering cross section is calculated for several types of aperture boundaries. The case of a front aperture composed of two parallel edges of infinite height with a rear aperture of any shape is calculated up to terms in the fourth derivative of the cross section. (W.D.M.)

Interpretation and Evaluation of the Uranium Occurences Near Goodsprings, Nevada: Final Report

Description: Abstract: The uranium occurrences near Goodsprings, Clark Co., Nevada, are divided into two distinct types which differ from each other in geographic distribution, localization of mineralization, mineralogy and origin. None of the known deposits is of present commercial significance and therefore this study emphasizes the genetic rather than the economic aspects.

Boundary Disturbances in High Explosive Shock Tubes

Description: Abstract: High Velocity disturbance are observed to propagate in advance of the plane shock front along the walls of a high-explosive-operated shock tube. Experiments were performed which indicate that the disturbance proceeds at a constant velocity relative to the shock front, and carries a considerable amount of energy as evidenced by its ability to penetrate metal plates. The velocity of a similar disturbance observed along a rod placed on the axis of the shock tube normal to the plane shocā€¦ more

Infrared Spectra and Structure of the Crystalline Sodium Acetate Complexes of U(VI), Np(VI), Pu(VI), and Am(VI). A Comparison of Metal-Oxygen Bond Distance and Bond fFrce Constant in this Series

Description: Infrared spectra of solid NaXO2(Ac)3, with X=U, Np, Pu, and Am, have been observed. From the symmetric and asymmetric stretching frequencies of the O-X-O groups, approximate X-O force constants have been calculated and were found to decrease in the order kUā€”O>kNpā€”O>kPuā€”O> kAmā€”O, the respective values being about 0.705, 0.698, 0.675, and 0.612 megadyne/cm. From the cell constants for NaXO2(Ac)3 it is apparent that the X-O bond distance decreases in the same orderā€”RUā€”O>RNpā€”O>RPuā€”O>RAmā€”O. Thus, a ā€¦ more

Steady State Performance of a Thermal Circulation Loop Containing a Parallel Path Heat Sink

Description: The steady-state performance of thermal circulation loops with parallel path heat sinks has been studied to determine what the system design and arrangement objectives are for such a loop. Though all heat sink paths may have thermal centers above the heat source thermal center, flow reversal through some of the paths may nevertheless occur. Such reversal can result in reduced performance if not in complete flow cessation if the improper type of arrangement design has been chosen. Assumptions noā€¦ more
