Proton Radioactivity Measurements at HRIBF: Ho, Lu, and Tm Isotopes

Description: Two new isotopes, {sup 145}Tm and {sup 140}Ho and three isomers in previously known isotopes, {sup 141m}Ho, {sup 150m}Lu and {sup 151m}Lu have been discovered and studied via their decay by proton emission. Dynamic Strain on Thin Diaphragms of a Mercury Target During 800-MeV Proton Thermal Shock Tests

Description: Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometric fiber optic sensors were used to measure dynamic strains on thin diaphragms of a liquid mercury target, which was subjected to intense 800-MeV proton thermal shock tests. The mercury target is engineered with very thin end plates or diaphragms (either 0.6 mm or 1.9 mm) for studying large strain effects. Using Machine Learning to Predict Genes Underlying Differentiation of Multipartite and Unipartite Traits in Bacteria

Description: Article describes how, since the discovery of the second chromosome in the Rhodobacter spaeroides 2.4.1 in 1989 and the revelation of gene sequences, multipartite genomes have been reported in over three hundred bacterial species under nine different phyla. In this study, the authors have attempted to leverage machine learning as a means to identify the genetic factors that underlie the differentiation of bacteria with multipartite and unipartite genomes.

New Pellet Injection Schemes on DIII-D

Description: The pellet fueling system on DIII-D has been modified for injection of deuterium pellets from two vertical ports and two inner wall locations on the magnetic high-field side (HFS) of the tokamak. Helicon Plasma Source Configuration Analysis by Means of Density Measurements

Description: Initial results have been obtained from operation of a helicon plasma source built to conduct optimization studies for space propulsion applications. The source features an easily reconfigurable antenna to test different geometries. Operating with He as the source gas, peak densities >= 1.6X10{sup 19} m{sup -3} have been achieved. Description: A series of zirconia catalysts prepared by a modified sol gel procedure, coprecipitation with ammonium hydroxide, and by a hydrothermal method were evaluated for catalytic activity. These catalysts were prepared containing silicon, thorium, titanium, cerium and the alkali metals. A catalyst containing 2% thorium on zirconia was the most active. Diagnosing Plasma Gradients Using Spectral Line Shapes

TART calculations using the new 2021 energy group cross section library compared with B. Czirr's resonance self-shielding experiments

Description: Results from calculations using a 2021-energy-group cross section library with sufficient energy definition in the lower energy range to resolve the known resorances in /sup 239/Pu and /sup 235/U are compared with flat-plate resorance self-shielding experimental data. The results are somewhat ambiguous. The lower energy ranges appear to agree better with experimental data for small areal densities, but disagree more as the areal density increases. High yield ICF target design for a Z-pinch driven hohlraum

Description: We describe calculations for a high yield inertial fusion design, employing indirect drive with a double-ended z-pinch-driven hohlraum radiation source. A high current ({approximately}60 MA) accelerator implodes z-pinches within an enclosing hohlraum. Radial spoke arrays and shine shields isolate the capsule from the pinch plasma, magnetic field and direct x-ray shine.
