The Effects of a Small Jet of Air Exhausting From the Nose of a Body of Revolution in Supersonic Flow

Description: Report presenting the results of an investigation to determine the effects of a small jet of air exhausting from the nose of an elliptical body of revolution upon boundary-layer transition and the viscous, pressure, and total drag of the forebody at three body stations at Mach number 1.62. The jet effects on body pressure, pressure variations, boundary-layer transition, and total drag are provided.

Mechanical Properties of Iodide Zirconium Alloys

Description: Introduction: "The tensile properties, hot hardness, impact strength; and corrosion resistance of some arc-melted, iodide zirconium alloys have been determined. The alloys investigated include binary alloys of zirconium containing zero to five per cent tin, binary alloys of zirconium containing zero to 0.14 per cent nitrogen, and ternary alloys of zirconium containing tin and nitrogen, tin and uranium, and uranium and beryllium."

Investigations in the Fall Creek Area, Bonneville County, Idaho, During the 1952 Field Season: A Preliminary Report

Description: Introduction: Field work during the 1952 field season has supplied new data on the areal extent, composition, and estimated reserves of uranium-bearing carbonaceous rocks in the Fall Creek.area, Bonneville County, Idaho. The following is a preliminary report of progress to describe these new data which supplement the information contained in Trace Elements Memorandum Report 340 (Vine and Moore, 1952). This work was done on behalf of the Division of Raw Materials of the U. S. Atomic Energy Commi… more

Electromagnetic Research Division Quarterly Progress Report, Part I for Period Ending June 30, 1952

Description: From abstract: "On the 86-inch cyclotron a 41-kw beam has been calorimetered at a net ion loading efficiency of 40%; the average proton current was 1.85 ma at 22.5 Mev. Practical specific yields have been determined for (p,2n) reactions on zinc and bismuth. The investigation of products of proton-induced fission of uranium has been continued and new techniques are being used in measuring angular distribution of reaction products. The 63-inch heavy particle cyclotron is now in operation; N+++ pa… more

Downcomer for 105KW and KE project CA-512-R

Description: Sometime was available for development and improvement for future designs before K pile design was authorized. One of the objectives of this development program va was to improve upon downcomer design. It as evident that the proper approach to the problem lay not in duplication because of inadequate facilities as a means of circumventing the resultant effects of failure, but rather in the adoption of a more logical engineering approach -- analyze the cause of failure, profit from the past opera… more

RADIATION HAZARDS FROM THE USE OP DENTAL X-RAY UNITS

Description: It is well known that for many years x-rays have been used in the dental profession as a potent diagnostic tool. Deprived of this means of exploration, the dentist and patient alike would be at a great disadvantage. In spite of the necessity of x-rays in the dental field, little has been done, however, to protect the patient and the dentist from unnecessary exposure. X-rays cannot immediately be felt or seen, and therein lies the hazard attending their use. What cannot be sensed is often ignore… more
