SYNROC powder preparation: preliminary fluid bed tests in a cold-flow unit

Description: SYNROC is a titanate-based material which is being developed as a medium for immobilizing high-level nuclear waste. The use of a fluid bed unit for production of SYNROC powder has a precedent in the use of a fluid-bed calciner for high-level waste processing at the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant (Idaho Falls, ID). Technical evaluation report on the 120 Vac vital instrument buses and inverter Technical Specifications Issue B71

Description: The operation of a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) with one of its 120 Vac vital buses energized in an off-normal mode was analyzed. Investigation into the feasibility of wind as an alternate energy resource at selected North Georgia sites

Description: Anemometers were placed at four selected sites in North Georgia during the period July, 1980, to June, 1982. Regular wind speed readings were taken using accumulating recorders and average daily wind speeds calculated for each location. Three wind speed categories were determined: (a) average below 7 mph; (b) average between 7 and 25 mph; (c) average above 25 mph. MFTF-B Upgrade for blanket-technology testing

Description: Based on preliminary studies at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), we believe the Mirror Fusion Test Facility (MFTF-B) could be upgraded for operation in a hot-ion Kelley mode in a portion of the central cell to provide fusion nuclear engineering data, particularly blanket technology information, by the end of the decade. Cost of this mode of operation would be modest compared with that of the other fusion devices considered in the last few years for such purposes.

Effect of resonance structure on 14-MeV Monte Carlo neutron transport in nitrogen and air

Design of the magnetized muon shield for the prompt-neutrino facility

Description: The main technical challenge in the design of the prompt neutrino beam is the magnetized muon shield.
