Automatic Foil Activity Counting Facility and Data-Reduction Program

Description: Report describing a transistorized automatic counting and recording system built for the determination of foil-activation data. Evaluation of the Blake Sodium Resistivity Meter

Description: Report issued by the APDA over an evaluation of the toroid sodium resistivity meter. Studies were conducted on carbon and oxygen contamination. As stated in the introduction, "the meter was also subjected to extensive testing in which variations in temperature, flow rate, and supply voltage were made in order to determine signal stability and effective range" (p. 5). This report includes tables, illustrations, and photographs.

EOCR Control Rod and Driver Fuel Hydraulic Tests

Description: Report discussing the results of experiments on an EOCR prototype control rod, control rod drive, and driver fuel assembly that were extensively tested in 500 deg F Santowax and 132 deg F water. These tests not only established the operating characteristics of these assemblies but also revealed a number of deficiencies in the various components. It includes descriptions of the control rod, control rod drive, and driver fuel assembly together with descriptions of their method of operation.

Time behavior of a critical reactor pulsed with a large square wave source

Description: In a previous Naval Application memorandum, a discussion was given of what happens to the power level of a reactor when an instantaneous, very large neutron source is introduced. The motivation for the problem arises from the question of what happens when a nuclear bomb is detonated near a reactor powered missile. Development of Improved Corrosion-Resistant Stainless Steel. Final Report

Description: Materials with improved corrosion resistance are needed for use in processing equipment handling HNO/sub 3/ -- HF and other corrosive solutions. Investigations were conducted to evaluate special modifications of Types 309 and 310 and higher Cr and Ni alloys. The 0.02% carbon Type 310 Cb, 0.02% carbon Type 310, and all of the higher Cr-Ni alloys were found to have a much improved general corrosion resistance over Type 309.
