Exploration for Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in Long Park and Adjacent Areas in the Southern Part of the Uravan District, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: A report pertaining to an exploration by the U.S. Geologic Survey in the southern part of the Uravan district for uranium-vanadium deposits. The explored area is in Montrose County, Colorado. The rocks exposed in the area are gently dripping marine and terrestial formations ranging in age from late Paleozoic to late Mesozoic.

Gamma-Radioactivity Investigations at the Nevada Test Site, Nye County, Nevada: Interim Report, February 1960 to July 1961

Description: Abstract: As a part of continuous geologic and geophysical investigations at the Nevada Test Site, gamma-radioactivity measurements are being made in tunnels and drill holes to determine semiquantitatively the natural gamma radioactivity of geologic formations and the distribution of nuclear-explosion-produced radioisotopes.

Uranium Content of Chattanooga Shale in East-Central Tennessee and Southern Kentucky

Description: From abstract: Uranium assays of all the samples collected by the Geological Survey from the Chattanooga shale in east-central Tennessee and southern Kentucky from 1947 to 1949 are assembled here, and conclusions are drawn concerning the distribution of the uranium. The 1108 assays from 80 localities provide reasonably reliable information on the stratigraphic and regional variations of the uranium content.

The Absorption Spectra of Complexes of Uranium (VI) with Some [beta]-Diketones

Description: Abstract: "The absorption spectra of the complexes of uranium (VI) with four [beta]-diketones were determined under various conditions of pH, concentration of uranium, and alcohol concentration. Under optimum conditions, the maximum molar absorptivity (31,200) is obtained using 2-furoyltri-fluoroacetone. This compares with about 4,000 and 19,000 for the thiocyanate and dibenzoylmethane complexes, respectively."

Geology of the Shinarump No.1 Uranium Mine, Seven Mile Canyon Area, Grand County, Utah

Description: Report discussing a geological study that took place from January 1952 - April 1953 to determine the habits, ore controls, and possible origins of the uranium deposit of the Shinarump No. 1 mine, which is located approximately 12 miles northwest of Moab, Utah.

Semiquantitative Spectrographic Analysis and Rank Correlation in Geochemistry

Description: Abstract: "The rank coefficient, rs, which involves less computation than the product moment correlation coefficient, r, can be used to indicate the degree of relationship between two elements. The method is applicable in situations where the assumptions underlying normal distribution correlation theory may not be satisfied. Semiquantitative spectrographic analyses can be used to calculate rank correlations between elements because the results are already partly ranked in an analytical report."

Fluorimetric Determination of Uranium in Shales, Lignites, and Monazites After Alkali Carbonate Separation

Description: Abstract: "Comparative data are presented on separations of microgram amounts of uranium from milligram amounts of various metal ions with Na2Co3-K2CO3, Na2CO3-K2CO3-H2O2, and Na2CO3-NaClO. The Na2CO3-K2CO3 separation procedure is applied to the analysis of shales, lignites, and monazites. This method will determine as little as 0.001 percent uranium in shales and lignites and 0.01 percent uranium in monazites."
