It is postmarked Kansas City, Missouri August 17, 1917, and the date Aug 28 is also stamped on the front. The return address is written on the back, along with some other handwritten notes. The right edge of the envelope has been torn.

Cooperative Measurements of Radio Fading in 1925

Description: Scientific paper issued by the Bureau of Standards over studies conducted on radio fading. As stated in the abstract, "the series of measurements on fading were devoted to studies of fading effects during the sunset period, effects during the solar eclipse of January 24, the fading variations throughout a 24-hour day, and the effects of high transmitting power on fading" (p. 419). This paper includes tables, maps, illustrations, and photographs.

Relation of Hydrogen and Methane to Carbon Monoxide in Exhaust Gases From Internal-Combustion Engines

Description: The relation of hydrogen and methane to carbon monoxide in the exhaust gases from internal-combustion engines operating on standard-grade aviation gasoline, fighting-grade aviation gasoline, hydrogenated safety fuel, laboratory diesel fuel, and auto diesel fuel was determined by analysis of the exhaust gases. Two liquid-cooled single-cylinder spark-ignition, one 9-cylinder radial air-cooled spark-ignition, and two liquid-cooled single-cylinder compression-ignition engines were used.

Description: Letter from Margaret Mitchell to Paul Kruse written in response to a letter from Kruse. Mitchell states that she is enclosing materials that she hopes will be of interest to Kruse and his students and comments on the production of the film adaptation of Gone with the Wind. Mitchell says she is not involved with the production of the film but believes production will begin the following year. The letter is signed "Margaret Mitchell Marsh." The letterhead reads "Margaret Mitchell" in blue ink.

Description: Track 1 contains a radio program by the First Piano Quartet (later known as the Original Piano Quartet), hosted by Robert Denton. At this time, the quartet consisted of Adam Garner, Vladimir Padwa, Henry Holt, and George Robert. The theme is Brahms' Paganini Variations, followed by Schubert's Moment Musicaux No. 3 in F Minor, Moszkowski's Bolero from Spanische Tänze, Op. 12, Liszt's Liebestraum No. 3, and Johann Strauss' Perpetual Motion. Tracks 2 and 3 are short fragments of public affairs programming and music.
