Description: Photocopy of a letter from Leilani Lattin Duke, director of the Getty Center, to Bill McCarter, co-director of NTIEVA, inviting McCarter to attend the Getty Center's fifth national conference, "Beyond the Three R's: Transforming education with the Arts," being held from January 12th - 14th, 1995 in Washington, D.C., Hilton Hotel and Towers. The conference will cover education reforms in the schools and how education in the arts is contributing to achieving the reform agenda. Duke invites McCarter to be a featured speaker at the breakout session for January 13th, which will focus the highlights of the Regional Institute Directors work in relation to the DBAE, discipline-based art education.

[Letter from Nancy Reynolds and Kay Wilson to Jim Peterson, August 9, 1993]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, Project Coordinator, and Kay Wilson, Research Assistant of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Jim Peterson, Whataburger Inc. In regards to the use of Peterson's condominium in Corpus Christi during the teacher seminar presented at the Art Museum of South Texas. Reynolds and Wilson write that they have developed rewarding relationships with sever corporate groups in Texas in their efforts to enrich art education in the public schools and are delighted with the similar collaborations in Corpus Christi. They appreciate Peterson's participation in the experience.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, Project Coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to the UNT Slide Library. Regarding that North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts has recently become an affiliate distributor of the National Gallery of Art, receiving a selection of resources from the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., including slide programs and videocassettes. The resources are located in NTIEVA's office for free loan to consortium members and the art faculty of UNT. Programs on the slides cover, artists, museums, architecture, painting and other extensive materials.

[Letter from Nancy Reynolds to Beverly Fletcher, August 12, 1992]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Nancy Reynolds, project coordinator of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Beverly Fletcher, Art Office of Fort Worth ISD. The letter is an enclosed summary of the evaluations from Fletcher's secondary institute. Reynolds writes that NTIEVA is excited about the positive results and are happy that they reflect the success of the Institute. Reynolds continues, wanting to let Fletcher know that the Ghost Ranch Spring Retreat idea has become reality, and that she'll send details in the upcoming newsletter. The retreat is for twenty adults for the nights of March 14 - 18 at Ghost Ranch Conference Center north of Aliquiu, New Mexico. Reynolds mentions that participants can go on to mini-seminars and excursions or just enjoy free time and relax. Attached to the letter is Fletcher's evaluation summary.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Robert H. Smith, Senator, Mississippi State Senate, to Jack Davis, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. To thank Davis for his success in promoting music and art in the curriculum as an instructional tool. Smith writes that he was successful on August 10, 1992 in having the Southern Legislative Conference adopt the resolution stating the need for music and arts education in public school curriculum and the success of the movement will depend on securing financing. Smith ends the letter asking for Davis's assistance in that matter.

McCarter and Davis write a little bit about what the program intends to do, such as prepare teachers and school administrators to implement discipline-based art education on a district wide basis, and wishing to discuss in further detail to Timmons on what their program can do for the FWISD schools.

[Letter from Bill McCarter to Nicole Murphy Holland, August 24, 1990]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Nicole Murphy Holland, Vice President for Exhibitions InterCultura. In regards of McCarter's enthusiasm for the presentation regarding "The Wanderers," and mentions David Coffey doing a superb job amplifying the content written by Andrew Harris. McCarter says that it is imperative that art teachers at both an elementary and secondary level be exposed to excellent presentations and that Georgia Blades is working with the program for Texas Art Education Fall Meeting in Fort Worth, hoping that Holland and Blades could connect for a repeat presentation to the members of TAEA. Enclosed in the letter to Holland, McCarter has sent a newsletter of the National Art Education Association, for Holland to get a feeling of strength from the teacher organization. Newsletter not present with letter.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Leilani Lattin Duke, director of the Getty Center, to Harriet Laney, in response to Laney's request for the Center to send the Texas PTO Presidents complimentary copies of the PTA kid. Duke responds that she wants to think about this request as they are only given a specific amount of copies, so as to not undercut the National PTA who sells copies of the kit. Duke will consider Laney's request if she sends a draft of the cover letter the Texas Institute would receive with the kits. Copied on the letter is Jack Davis, Bill McCarter and Vicki Rosenberg.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis to Bill McCarter, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Jay Gates, Director for the Dallas Museum of Art. In regards to an invitation from North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, NTIEVA to welcome Gates to the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. Davis and McCarter describe to Gates, that within the past four years the Dallas Museum of Art has been in their consortium, comprised of five museums and six school districts, for discipline-based art education and implementation. Majority of their funding comes from the Getty Center for Education in the Arts, as the Center represents the comprehensive approach to art education. Davis and McCarter write that while they had a pleasure working with Gail Davitt and Aileen Horan, they are looking forward to their work with Gates.

In regards to Eshom's assistance during the four day seminar. Reynolds writes that they have reserved the days of June 28 - July 1 and July 5 - 8, 1994 for Corpus Christi to discuss future seminars and the ways to best serve the teachers. Reynolds continues that Dr. William Otten is interested in bringing NTIEVA to speak at the Art Museum of South Texas, and that possibly Eshom can reach out to him to coordinate efforts. Enclosed with the letter are information Reynolds believes will be useful for Eshom.
