Influence of Nitrate on the Hanford 100D Area In Situ Redox Manipulation Barrier Longevity

Description: The purpose of this laboratory study is to determine the influence of nitrate on the Hanford 100D Area in situ redox manipulation (ISRM) barrier longevity. There is a wide spread groundwater plume of 60 mg/L nitrate upgradient of the ISRM barrier with lower nitrate concentrations downgradient, suggestive of nitrate reduction occurring. B_s oscillation and prospects for delta m_s at the Tevatron

Description: Till the start of the LHC, the Tevatron is the only running accelerator which produces enough B{sub s} mesons to perform {Delta}m{sub s} measurements. The status--as it was at the time of the conference--of two different {Delta}m{sub s} analysis performed both by the CDF and D0 collaboration will be presented.

REMARKS ON THE MAXIMUM ENTROPY METHOD APPLIED TO FINITE TEMPERATURE LATTICE QCD.

Description: We make remarks on the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) for studies of the spectral function of hadronic correlators in finite temperature lattice QCD. We discuss the virtues and subtlety of MEM in the cases that one does not have enough number of data points such as at finite temperature. Taking these points into account, we suggest several tests which one should examine to keep the reliability for the results, and also apply them using mock and lattice QCD data.

R-Square Impedances of Erl Ferrite Hom Absorber.

Neutrino-induced muons observed with MINOS

Description: The Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search (MINOS) experiment's Far Detector has been operational since July 2003, taking cosmic ray and atmospheric neutrino data from its location in the Soudan Mine Underground Lab. Numerous neutrino-induced muons have been observed. The detector's magnetic field allows the first determination by a large underground detector of muon charge and thus neutrino versus anti-neutrino on an event by event basis.

An 8-Element Fast-Neutron Double-Scatter Directional Detector.

Description: We have constructed a fast-neutron double-scatter spectrometer that efficiently measures the neutron spectrum and direction of a spontaneous fission source. The device consists of two planes of organic scintillators, each having an area of 125 cm{sup 2}, efficiently coupled to photomultipliers. Measurement of the sky photon background flux at the Auger Observatory

Description: The sky photon background flux has been measured at the southern Auger site in Malargue, Argentina, using the observatory's fluorescence detectors (FD). The analysis is based on ADC variances of pixels not triggered by the First Level Trigger. Photon fluxes are calculated for each individual pixel at each telescope. Isospin Breaking and the Chiral Condensate.

Description: With two degenerate quarks, the chiral condensate exhibits a jump as the quark masses pass through zero. I discuss how this single transition splits into two Ising like transitions when the quarks are made non-degenerate. The order parameter is the expectation of the neutral pion field. The transitions represent long distance coherent phenomena occurring without the Dirac operator having vanishingly small eigenvalues.

Physics at an upgraded Fermilab proton driver

Description: In 2004 the Fermilab Long Range Planning Committee identified a new high intensity Proton Driver as an attractive option for the future, primarily motivated by the recent exciting developments in neutrino physics. First observation of dijet events with an antiproton tag at s**(1/2) = 1.96 TeV using the D0 Forward Proton Detector

Description: The Forward Proton Detector (FPD) is a new sub-system of the D0 detector, a 5000 ton particle physics detector located at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. Development and Validation of High-Resolution State Wind Resource Maps for the United States

Description: The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has coordinated the development and validation of high-resolution state wind resource maps for much of the United States. The majority of these maps were produced for NREL by TrueWind Solutions (now AWS Truewind [AWST]) based in Albany, New York, using its proprietary MesoMap system. Response of the Pierre Auger Observatory water Cherenkov detectors to muons
