J/{psi} production in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV

Description: The authors have studied J/{psi} production in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV with the D0 detector at Fermilab, using a {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}} data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 13 pb{sup {minus}1}. They have measured the inclusive J/{psi} production cross section as a function of J/{psi} transverse momentum p{sub T}. For the kinematic range p{sub T} > 8 GeV/c and {vert_bar}{eta}{vert_bar} < 0.6 they obtain Br(J/{psi} {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus… more

Inclusive dimuon and b-quark production cross sections in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV

Description: We report on a preliminary measurement of the inclusive dimuon cross section in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. From these results, we extract the inclusive b-quark production cross section for the kinematic range {vert_bar}y{sup b}{vert_bar} < 1.0 and 9 GeV/c < p{sub T}{sup b min} < 25 GeV/c. The difference in azimuthal angle in the transverse plane for dimuon pairs from b{bar b} production is also shown.

Basin amplification of seismic waves in the city of Pahrump, Nevada.

Description: Sedimentary basins can increase the magnitude and extend the duration of seismic shaking. This potential for seismic amplification is investigated for Pahrump Valley, Nevada-California. The Pahrump Valley is located approximately 50 km northwest of Las Vegas and 75 km south of the Nevada Test Site. Gravity data suggest that the city of Pahrump sits atop a narrow, approximately 5 km deep sub-basin within the valley. The seismic amplification, or ''site effect'', was investigated using a combinat… more

Growth of molten core debris pools in concrete. Progress report, April 1--June 30, 1979. [LMFBR]

Description: The heat and mass transfer processes taking place in molten core debris/concrete systems have been experimentally investigated. Two types of experiments have been conducted. The first experiment simulates the growth of a molten debris pool in a composite sacrificial bed. This experiment models debris pool growth in an inner, low-melting point, sacrificial material zone followed by a melting attack on the concrete bed. The purpose of the inner zone is to quickly melt and dilute the debris pool s… more

First results from SAGE II

Description: The Russian-American Gallium solar neutrino Experiment (SAGE) began the second phase of operation (SAGE II) in September of 1992. Monthly measurements of the integral flux of solar neutrinos have been made with 55 tonnes of gallium. The K-peak results of the first five runs of SAGE II give a capture rate of 76{sub {minus}18}{sup +21} (stat) {sub {minus}7}{sup +5} (sys) SNU. combined with the SAGE I result, the capture rate is 74{sub {minus}12}{sup +13} (stat) {sub {minus}7}{sup +5} (sys) SNU.
