Collaborative Research: Place Attachment in Mitigation and Recovery: A Mixed Methods Study of Residential Adjustment Following Wildfires

Description: Data management plan for the grant, "Collaborative Research: Place Attachment in Mitigation and Recovery: A Mixed Methods Study of Residential Adjustment Following Wildfires." This study focuses on understanding how place attachment influences the decisions people make after disasters, specifically residential decisions about where they live and whether they invest in measures that reduce their risk to future disasters. Using three California counties as study sites, and building on a pilot study in these same, wildfire-affected communities, the research team uses photovoice method and phenomenological analyses to develop a deep, contextually grounded understanding of the role of place attachment in residential decisions.

[Diego Velázquez bronze equestrian sculpture by artist Constance Whitney Warren on UNT's campus]

Description: Photograph of the Diego Velázquez bronze equestrian sculpture by artist Constance Whitney Warren on UNT's campus. The ten foot sculpture depicts the Spanish artist (who lived from 1599-1660) sitting on top of a horse that has its rigth front hoof lifted. Velázquez is holding on to the reins of the horse and is depicted wearing an equestrian outfit reminiscent of his time such as a large hat with a feather, a cape, gloves, and riding boots. A painters palette and paint brushes are also depicted and included on the sculptures large base at the foot of Velázquez atop the horse. The sculpture appears to be a green color due to the oxidization of the bronze over time. The back of Sycamore Hall and large green trees are visible in the background. The sculpture is surrounded by two bushes with bright pink cherry blossoms. The plaque situated on the base of the sculpture reads "Equestrian Portrait of Diego Velázquez, Constance Whitney Warren, Gift of the Harlan Crow Family."
