B physics: measurement of the lifetime difference between b_s mass eigenstates

Description: We present measurements of the lifetimes and polarization amplitudes for B{sub s}{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi}{phi} and B{sub d}{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi} K*{sup 0} decays. Lifetimes of the heavy (H) and light (L) mass eigenstates in the B{sub s}{sup 0} system are separately measured for the first time by determining the relative contributions of amplitudes with definite CP as a function of the decay time.

Description: Automatic control of fine coal cleaning circuits has traditionally been limited by the lack of sensors for on-line ash analysis. Although several nuclear-based analyzers are available, none have seen widespread acceptance. A study of the motion and aerodynamic heating of ballistic missiles entering the earth's atmosphere at high supersonic speeds

Description: From Summary: "A simplified analysis of the velocity and deceleration history of ballistic missiles entering the earth's atmosphere at high supersonic speeds is presented. The results of this motion analysis are employed to indicate means available to the designer for minimizing aerodynamic heating. The heating problem considered involves not only the total heat transferred to a missile by convection, but also the maximum average and local time rates of convective heat transfer."

Durability of glasses vitrified from high copper feed in the 774 Research Melter

Description: Small scale crucible studies were performed by Schumacher to examine the effects of formate and nitrate on glass redox at high copper levels. The results of the crucible studies were used to determine the regions where copper precipitates in the glass. However, durability tests were not performed on the glass samples. Flight Measurements at Transonic Speeds of the Buffeting Characteristics of the XF-92A Delta-Wing Research Airplane

Description: Report presenting testing on a 60 degree delta-wing XF-92A airplane at a variety of Mach numbers to obtain measurements regarding buffet-induced fluctuations in normal acceleration and of fluctuations in structural shear load of the left wing. The altitudes tested ranged from 25,000 to 38,000 feet. Results regarding the buffet boundary, wing flow conditions, buffet frequencies, buffet intensities, and a comparison to buffeting of other airplanes are provided.
