Pile Heat Exchanger Calculations

Description: Abstract. Some idealized calculations (CP-807) relating to the design of heat exchangers for minimum holdup of pile liquid are presented in compact form to facilitate quick estimates. Their use is illustrated by application to a falling film type exchanger.

Description: Abstract. In the first section of this technical report a new method of extracting uranium from thorium nitrate solution is discussed. This method consists of extracting an aqueous solution of thorium nitrate, nitric acid, sodium sulphate, and potassium thiocyanate with hexone. Comparison of observed and calculated flattening at 105-D

Description: The total power output of a unit may be represented by the power output of the most productive tube or tubes multiplied by a quantity designated as the ``number of effective tubes.`` The number of effective tubes observed at 105-D under two different arrangements of poisoned columns has been compared with values of this quantity calculated from theory. A Rapid Method for Determination of Water in TO₃

Description: Summary: A set of conditions is described for a ten minute determination of water in TO₃ by ignition and absorption of the evolved water in magnesium perchlorate. Complete conversion to T₃O₃ is obtained under these conditions, so that total loss on ignition and total T (plus non-volatile impurity) content may also be obtained. The Site B Foundry (Final Report on Part I of P.A. No. 151-ML-54-2, F.S. 41)

Description: The Site B Foundry is equipped for the melting and casting of tuballoy and its alloys. Castings weighing up to 750 pounds and as long as 40 inches can be made. Melting can be carried out in the vacuum, in inert gases or under fluxes. Heating is by high frequency induction.
