Analysis of temperature-time data from 3 m drillholes at Crystal Hot Springs, Utah

Description: A method for determining the background geothermal gradient values through the analysis of temperature measurements at multiple depths to 3 m and recorded over a time span of several days is presented. The analysis is based on the amplitude decay and phase shift of temperature waves with depth. Diurnal and other high frequency temperature variations are used to compute thermal diffusivities which in turn are used to model and remove the effect of the annual temperature wave. The analysis consid… more

The East Slope No. 2 Uranium Prospect, Piute County, Utah

Description: From abstract: The secondary uranium minerals autunite, metatorbernite, uranophane (?), and schroeckingerite occur in altered hornfels at the East Slope No. 2 uranium prospect. The deposit, in sec. 6, T. 27 S., R. 3 W., Piute County, Utah, is about I mile west of the Bullion Monarch mine in the central producing area of the Marysvale uranium district. Hornfels, formed by contact metamorphism of bullion Canyon volcanic rocks along the edge of a quartz monzonite stock, is in fault contact with th… more

Geology of Carnotite-Bearing Sandstone in the Uravan and Gateway Districts, Montrose and Mesa Counties, Colorado, and Grand County, Utah

Description: From Introduction: "In the Uravan and Gateway districts, the general character of the bedding in the ore-bearing sandstone and amount of alteration in associated mudstones, and the relation of these to each other, are the features most useful as large-scale guides. This report describes these features and their distribution, as well as some other significant geologic characteristics of the ore-bearing sandstone."

Investigation of Shinarump Channels on Oljetoh Mesa, Arizona - Utah

Description: From to the files: The Shinarump-Moenkopi contact on Oljetoh Mesa in the Monument Valley district, Arizona-Utah, was examined from November 5 to 15, 1951, to determine the location of and the mineralization in Shinarump channels. Twenty-seven distinct channel outcrops were located and examined. Three of these channel outcrops are mineralized and the remaining 24 are barren. Plate I shows the distribution of the Shinarump, the Moenkopi, and the DeChelly member of the Cutler formation; the locati… more
