Oral History Interview with Clarence Kingsley, November 21, 2003

Description: Interview with Charles Kingsley, a Texas National Guard WWII veteran from Dallas, Texas, who served in the 112th Cavalry. Kingsley discusses his upbringing, joining the Guard, the Louisiana Maneuvers, deployment to New Caledonia, his troop's machine gun section/platoon, Woodlark Island, the Battle of Arawe, New Guinea and the Battle of Drinumor River, the Battles of Leyte and Luzon, his thoughts on the generals he served, and thoughts on the 112th.

Empty bottles have been piled up above a grouping of rocks. A slab in the center of the rocks reads, "[19]40-1986 Don Smith [--] Held in the arms of my desert I assured lyres in peace." Description: Photograph of the grave of Felix R. Valenzuela at Terlingua Cemetery during a river rafting trip led by Steven Fromholz and Craig Hillis in November 2002. A large wooden cross has been placed on top of a rectangular limestone structure above ground. A plaque on the cross reads, "Felix R. Valenzuela February 22, 1882 - June 19, 1938." A bouquet of flowers has been placed on top of the grave. Other graves can be seen next to and behind Valenzuela's. The desert landscape can be seen in the background.

The wooden headstone reads, "Kenn[eth] 'Zer[o'] [K]empf 8-27-33 [--] 11-25-93 [Friend to All]." A floral wreath has been placed over the center of the headstone. A United States flag is hanging out from the left side. Rocks can be seen outlining the grave. A small patch of desert flowers are growing beneath the headstone. Several wooden crosses can be seen on a large pile of rocks in the background on the right side of the of the photograph.
