Mechanistic Models of Virus–Bacteria Co-Infections in Humans: A Systematic Review of Methods and Assumptions

Description: Article investigates the relationship between asymptotic structures and geometric properties in Banach spaces by constructing a reflexive Banach space with an unconditional basis whose spreading models are uniformly equivalent to the unit vector basis. The study demonstrates that, despite these highly regular asymptotic properties, every infinite-dimensional closed subspace fails the Lebesgue property, providing a strong separation of asymptotic phenomena within Banach space theory.

Overexpression of native carbonic anhydrases increases carbon conversion efficiency in the methanotrophic biocatalyst Methylococcus capsulatus Bath

Description: In this article authors show that M. capsulatus expresses five carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms, one α-CA, one γ-CA, and three β-CAs, that play a role in its inorganic carbon metabolism and CO2-dependent growth. The authors developed an engineered methanotrophic biocatalyst overexpressing the native α-CA and β-CA with a 2.5-fold improvement in the conversion of CH4 to biomass.

Baker's yeast beta glucan supplementation was associated with an improved innate immune mRNA expression response after exercise

Description: This article states that beta glucans are found in many natural sources, however, only Baker’s Yeast Beta Glucan (BYBG) has been well documented to have structure–function effects that are associated with improved innate immune response to stressors (e.g., exercise, infection, etc.). The identified mRNA whose expression was altered after exercise with BYBG may represent an innate immune response pattern and supports previous conclusions that BYBG improves immune response to a future sterile inf… more

Analysis of Pectin-derived Monosaccharides from Arabidopsis Using GC–MS

Description: Article describes how pectin is a complex polysaccharide present in the plant cell wall, whose composition is constantly remodeled to adapt to environmental or developmental changes. Here, authors describe a quick and efficient gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS)-based method that allows the differential analysis of pectin monosaccharide composition in plants under different conditions or between mutant plants and their respective wild types.

The Subantarctic Rayadito (Aphrastura subantarctica), a new bird species on the southernmost islands of the Americas

Description: Article describes a new taxon of terrestrial bird of the genus Aphrastura (rayaditos) inhabiting the Diego Ramírez Archipelago, the southernmost point of the American continent. The authors state that the discovery of this endemic passerine highlights the need to monitor and conserve this still-pristine archipelago devoid of exotic species, which is now protected by the recently created Diego Ramírez Islands-Drake Passage Marine Park.

Environmental filtering of macroinvertebrate traits influences ecosystem functioning in a large river floodplain

Description: Article describes how the biodiversity–ecosystem function hypothesis postulates that higher biodiversity is correlated with faster ecosystem process rates and increased ecosystem stability in fluctuating environments. The authors examined linkages among floodplain wetland habitats, invertebrate communities and their associated traits, and ecosystem function across 60 sites within the floodplain wetlands of the lower Wolastoq, Saint John River, New Brunswick.

Encroachment order and spatial patterns of broad-leaf tree species in the naturalization of a Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation

Description: Authors of the article state that the aim of this study was to understand the encroachment order, spatial patterns, interspecific associations, and species diversity of a Cunninghamia lanceolata plantation and to provide context for how to improve the spatial structure of C. lanceolata plantations. Their results show that the encroachment of broad-leaf trees into the C. lanceolata plantation followed a clear successional sequence of tree community assembly: intolerant tree species encroachment … more

N-acylethanolamide metabolizing enzymes are upregulated in human neural progenitor-derived neurons exposed to sub-lethal oxidative stress

Description: Article is a study determining whether ReN cells, a superior cell model system for studying neurodevelopment, differentiation, and neuroprotection, express proteins involved in canonical eCB NAE signaling and whether oxidative stress can induce their expression. This study is a first step toward determining how oxidative stress affects CB1, CB2, FAAH, NAAA, and NAPE-PLD expression and their potential defense against oxidative stress.

Case report: Early-onset osteoporosis in a patient carrying a novel heterozygous variant of the WNT1 gene

Description: Article presents a case study of a 35 year-old Caucasian woman who experienced multiple vertebral fractures two months after her second pregnancy. The results suggest a potential role of heterozygous WNT1 variants in the pathogenesis of early-onset osteoporosis. The authors suggest that teriparatide is one of the most appropriate available therapies for such cases.

The Cluster Transfer Function of AtNEET Supports the Ferredoxin–Thioredoxin Network of Plant Cells

Description: This article develops an inducible expression system to study AtNEET function in mature plants using a time-course proteomics approach. The authors report that the suppression of AtNEET cluster transfer function results in drastic changes in the expression of different members of the ferredoxin (Fd), Fd-thioredoxin (TRX) reductase (FTR), and TRX network of Arabidopsis, as well as in cytosolic cluster assembly proteins.

LBD29-Involved Auxin Signaling Represses NAC Master Regulators and Fiber Wall Biosynthesis

Description: This article uses a large-scale mutant screening to identify a dominant activation-tagging mutant, fiberless-d (fls-d), showing defective SCW development in stem fibers, similar to that of the nac secondary wall thickening promoting factor1-1 (nst1-1)nst3-3 double mutant. The results demonstrate auxin is upstream of LBD29 in repressing NAC master regulators, and therefore sheds new light on the regulation of SCW biosynthesis in Arabidopsis.
