The Distribution of Radioactivity in the Mouse Following Administration of Dibenzanthracene Labeled in the 9 and 10 Positions with Carbon Fourteen

Description: Dibenzanthracene, labeled in the 9 and 10 positions with carbon fourteen has been administered to mice intravenously and by stomach tube as an aqueous colloid, and intraperitoneally, subcutaneously, and by stomach tube in tricaprylin solution. The distribution of radioactivity in the mice at various time intervals after administration of the carcinogen has been determined. The radioactivity is rapidly eliminated, largely through the feces, and ordinarily very little is absorbed. The distributio… more

Electronics progress report

Description: The work to determine the feasibility of a pratical solution counter for alphas has been continued through this month. It has developed that the electronic technique using an Amperex mica-window GM tube (1.4 mg./cm{sup 2} mica) is reliable, and it now appears that the problem is mainly one of solution-mounting technique. Two four-input gamma mixers and three two-input B-wall mixers have been given a final check and assembled in cabinets with their associated scalers. These scalars, Instrument D… more

Some effects of gutter flame-holder dimensions on combustion-chamber performance of 20-inch ram jet

Description: Report presenting the operational characteristics of a 20-inch ramjet with four different gutter-grid flame holders and a three-gutter flame holder with an adjustable gutter angle. The flame holders were compared on the basis of operating ranges of fuel-air ratio, combustion-chamber-inlet velocity, and the combustion efficiencies obtainable.

Performance investigation of can-type combustor 2: water injection at various stations in combustor

Description: Report presenting an investigation to determine the maximum quantity of water that could be injected either into or ahead of a single can-type combustor without reducing the attainable combustor-outlet temperature below the value required for engine operation and without the appearance of liquid water at the combustor outlet. Water was injected from spray nozzles at four different stations along the combustor.

Longitudinal Stability and Control Characteristics at Transonic Speeds of a Semispan Airplane Model Having a 45 Degree Sweptback Wing and Tail as Obtained by the Transonic-Bump Method

Description: Report presenting a wind-tunnel investigation using the transonic-bump method to determine the longitudinal stability and control characteristics of a semispan airplane model with a 45 degree sweptback wing and tail at transonic speeds. An increase in the rate of change of the pitching-moment coefficient with lift coefficient at a constant Mach number through the transonic range was noted.

Investigation of Performance of Single-Stage Axial-Flow Compressor Using NACA 5509-34 Blade Section

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation conducted to study the performance of a single-stage axial-flow compressor using blades with an NACA 5509-34 airfoil section. Static- and total-pressure, total-temperature, and flow-angle surveys were taken in the compressor inlet and outlet and between blade rows to study the overall performance and individual blade-row performance.

Vibration Survey of NACA 24-Inch Supersonic Axial-Flow Compressor

Description: "Vibration investigations were made of two blade cascades in wind tunnels and of blades operated in the NACA 24-inch supersonic compressor. The results showed that the blade vibrations were present at all tunnel and compressor air velocities and were influenced primarily by tunnel design, simulated centrifugal loading, surging, angle of attack, and possible critical Mach numbers" (p. 1).
