Longitudinal and Lateral Stability Characteristics of a Low-Aspect-Ratio Unswept-Wing Airplane Model at Mach Numbers of 1.82 and 2.01

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation in the 4- by 4-foot supersonic pressure tunnel at Mach numbers of 1.82 and 2.01 to determine the longitudinal and lateral stability characteristics of a fighter-type airplane model with a low-aspect-ratio unswept wing and a high horizontal tail. The results indicated a region of reduced longitudinal stability at low lifts at a Mach number of 2.01 that was caused by fuselage flow fields or vertical-tail effects on the horizontal tail.

APPR-1 Axial Non-Uniform Burn Up--Initial Studies

Description: The control rod position in relation to reactor lifetime and the relative concentrations of U/sup 235/ and B/sup 10/ as a function of U burned were found by a modified 2-group theory using the adjusted age and a straight 2- group theory without fast multiplication or resonance capture. Results indicate that at 15% average burnup the flux shape and reactivity do not vary appreciably from that given by the uniform analysis. (F.S.)

Continuous Electrochemical Determination of Oxygen in Gases

Description: To forestall the oxidation of graphite in HAPO reactors, a process specification provides that the oxygen concentration in pile gas should be kept to a minimum. Close control in maintaining this limit is difficult when only periodic samples are taken because laboratory results are always obtained long after any required corrections should have been made. A continuous-type analyzer that provides immediate knowledge of the oxygen concentration eliminates these time delays.
