A theoretical study of the aerodynamics of slender cruciform-wing arrangements and their wakes

Description: A theoretical study is made of the pressures, loadings, forces, and vortex wake associated with certain cruciform wing arrangements. For 45 degree bank, the wake of a cruciform wing is treated numerically with 40 vortices and analytically with 4 vortices. Comparisons are made with water-tank measurements, and the calculation of loads on cruciform tails by reverse flow considered.

Effects of Elevated Temperatures on the Properties of Portland Cement Mixtures Related to Surface Removal and Decontamination

Description: From abstract: The effect of heat on the surface removal of concrete was studied by conducting brush tests on samples which had been subjected to prolonged high temperatures in an oven or in direct contact with an oxy-propane flame. Other methods of heat-treating surface layers of concrete were investigated by direct application of an oxy-aluminum torch on the surface and by the exothermic chemical reactions of pyrotechnic compositions placed directly on the surface.

Atmospheric Contamination Associated with Inert-Gas-Shielded, Consumable Electrode Welding

Description: Apparent excessive concentrations of atmospheric contamination which were reported to be associated with an inert-gas-shielded consumable electrode arc wielding operation were studied to evaluate the potential health hazards. A study was made of the concentrations of metal fume and gaseous products of the operation as well as the spectrum of ultraviolet radiation. Recommendations for necessary controls were made.

Experimental investigation of a transonic axial-flow-compressor rotor with double-circular-arc airfoil blade sections 3: comparison of blade-element performance with three levels of solidity

Description: Report presenting testing of two low-solidity transonic axial-flow-compressor rotors tested over a range of speeds up to a corrected tip speed of 1000 feet per second to determine the performance of such rotors and to provide experimental rotor blade-element data for low solidity levels. Investigation of the effects of body indentation and of wing-plan-form modification on the longitudinal characteristics of a 60 degree swept-wing-body combination at Mach numbers of 1.41, 1.61, and 2.10

Description: Report presenting an investigation in the 4- by 4-foot supersonic pressure tunnel to determine the effects of body indentation on the minimum drag and maximum lift-drag ratio of a 60 degree swept-wing-body combination. A secondary goal of the tests was to determine the effect on the maximum lift-drag ratio of modifying the inboard plan form of the 60 degree swept wing. Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of the Effect of Yaw on Heat Transfer to Circular Cylinders in Hypersonic Flow

Description: Report presenting a flight investigation at a range of altitudes to determine the wing loads on the Convair XF-92A airplane over the lift range of the airplane at subsonic and transonic speeds. Description: Memorandum presenting a low-speed wind-tunnel investigation conducted to study the effects of pylon-mounted wing tanks and speed brakes on the static stability characteristics of a model with sweptback wing and tail surfaces.
