Dependence of Thermal Utilization and Resonance Escape Probability Upon Fuel Element Density in Dâ‚‚O Cooled and Moderated Systems

Description: Abstract: "The effect of variation in fuel element density upon f, p in a D2O cooled and moderated lattice of cylindrical fuel elements is investigated. The CP-3 lattice is chosen as a reference. The effect of a source term in the fuel element is considered. f, p are calculated as functions of "a", the ratio of the modified fuel element density to the original (fuel only) density. Curves showing f(a), p(a) are included. It is concluded that a 1 per cent decrease in the product, f(d), p(a) is no… more

The effects of tip-mounted jet nacelles on the transonic characteristics of low-aspect-ratio wings

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the effects of tip-mounted jet-engine nacelles on the aerodynamic characteristics of low-aspect-ratio rectangular and tapered wings using the transonic-bump technique. The effect of the tip-mounted nacelles was generally to increase the lift-curve slopes for wings of aspect ratio 2 or larger with upper or lower mounted nacelles causing larger increases than symmetrically mounted nacelles. Results regarding rectangular wings and tapered wings are provided.

Experimental Study of Isothermal Wake-Flow Characteristics of Various Flame-Holder Shapes

Description: "An investigation of the isothermal wake-flow characteristics of several flame-holder shapes was carried out in a 4- by 4-inch flow chamber. The effects of flame-holder-shape changes on the characteristics of the Karman vortices and thus on the recirculation zones to which experimenters have related the combustion process were obtained for several flame holders. The results may furnish a basis of correlation, of combustion efficiency and stability for similarly shaped flame holders in combustio… more
