Propeller analysis from experimental data

Description: The operation of the propeller is analyzed by the use of the distribution of forces along the radius, combined with theoretical equations. The data were obtained in the NACA 20-foot wind tunnel on a 4-foot-diameter, two-blade propeller, operating in front of four body shapes, ranging from a small shaft to support the propeller to conventional NACA cowling. A method of estimating the axial and the rotational energy in the wake as a fractional part of the propeller power is given. A knowledge of … more

Final report on Production Test 105-58-P -- B Pile reactivity under shutdown conditions

Description: Following the shutdown of the B Pile in March 1946 a method was devised for monitoring the sub-critical reactivity such that any significant change in neutron flux would be detected. This report summarizes the status of the unit until its start up in July 1948.

Longitudinal Stability and Control Characteristics of a Semispan Airplane Model at Transonic Speeds as Obtained by the Transonic-Bump Method

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation in the high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel using the transonic bump method to determine the longitudinal stability and control characteristics of a semispan airplane model at transonic speeds. The results indicated an increase in the maneuvering stability through the transonic range, but regions of instability were indicated by the slope of the curve stabilizer incidence for trim against Mach number at all positions tested.

Performance of several air ejectors with conical mixing sections and small secondary flow rates

Description: An investigation of several ejector configurations to determine the ability to handle the air required for engine cooling. The results are limited to investigations of conical-type mixing-section ejectors at ratios of mixing-section minimum diameter to primary-jet-nozzle diameter using unheated air. Results regarding experimental data, generalization of experimental data, spacing for maximum weight-flow ratio, ejector thrust, ejector configurations for constant weight-flow ratio, and selection … more

REACTION RATE OF THE FLUORINATION OF URANIUM DIOXIDE AT A CONTINUOUSLY INCREASING TEMPERATURE

Description: Using an apparatus described in a preceeding paper the reaction rate of the fluorination of UO/sub 2/ by HF was measured under the condition of a gradually increasing temperature. UF/sub 4/ made in this way did not show caking although final reaction temperatures ranged as high as 700 deg C. The rate of reaction was found to be greater than the rate measured under isothermal conditions at the highest temperature attained during the continuous increase as long as this final temperature was above… more

Investigation of Low-Speed Aileron Control Characteristics at a Reynolds Number of 6,800,000 of a Wing With Leading Edge Swept Back 42 Degrees With and Without High-Lift Devices

Description: Report presenting an investigation at a Reynolds number of 6,800,000 to determine the low-speed lateral control characteristics of a 20-percent-chord half-span outboard aileron on a wing with 42 degrees of sweepback at the leading edge. The lateral control, aileron hinge-moment, aileron load, and balance-chamber-pressure characteristics were determined for the wing with and without high-lift and stall-control devices for an angle-of-attack range from -4 degrees through the stall.

Low Pass Filters For Telemetering Applications

Description: With exacting requirements imposed upon the operation of the subchannel modulators used in the FM-FM telemetering system, it became necessary to obtain a filter suitable for use in conjunction with the subcarrier oscillators in order that the desired distortion level could be effectively maintained. This paper describes, both theoretically and practically, a filter which was found to satisfactorily fill the required specifications.
