Acid Formation in the Radiolysis of Phosphorus Esters

Description: The radiolytic decomposition of tributyl phosphate has been show by burr to product gases, acids, and polymers. the acids that are formed can limit the usefulness of tributyl phosphate for the processing of radioactive materials. The study of acid formation on radiolysis therefor becomes important to us for the understanding of the mechanism of acid formation, the influence of added materials and the effect of the structure of organo- phosphorous compounds. Samples of purified esters have been … more

Wind-tunnel investigation at Mach 1.9 of multijet-missile base pressures

Description: From Summary: "An experimental wind-tunnel investigation was conducted at Mach 1.9 to determine the pressures acting on the base of a multijet missile using unheated air and carbon dioxide as jet fluids. The variation of base pressure with jet static-pressure ratio was compared with results estimated for an axisymmetric single-jet model and some correlation was observed."

Laboratory evaporation of Redox PR solution

Description: Since Redox start-up, several samples of Redox PR solution have been evaporated in the laboratory as one step in a study of the Redox -- 234 coupling process. Because feed for Task I in 234-5 will be produced by evaporative concentration of Redox and purex product solutions, and because laboratory work has shown the desirability of filtering Redox solutions after such evaporation prior to use in Task I. This report summarizes the observations which have been made in the course of this work, as … more

Basic Gamma-Ray Data for ART Heat Deposition Calculations

Description: In order that fairly accurate thermal stress calculations can be made on the ART, it is necessary to have a reasonable picture of the temperature distribution in the reactor. To get the temperature distributions, and to determine cooling requirements in various parts of the reactor, one must know the heat deposition rates due to alpha particles, beta rays, gamma rays, and neutrons in all parts of the reactor. The present report contains only the basic physical data necessary to determine the he… more
