Baker's yeast beta glucan supplementation was associated with an improved innate immune mRNA expression response after exercise

Description: This article states that beta glucans are found in many natural sources, however, only Baker’s Yeast Beta Glucan (BYBG) has been well documented to have structure–function effects that are associated with improved innate immune response to stressors (e.g., exercise, infection, etc.). The identified mRNA whose expression was altered after exercise with BYBG may represent an innate immune response pattern and supports previous conclusions that BYBG improves immune response to a future sterile inf… more

Ex vivo lipidomics reveal monoacylglycerols as substrates for a fatty acid amide hydrolase in the legume Medicago truncatula

Description: This article states that fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) is a conserved hydrolase in eukaryotes with promiscuous activity toward a range of acylamide substrates. The native substrate repertoire for FAAH has just begun to be explored in plant systems outside the model Arabidopsis thaliana. The authors used ex vivo lipidomics to identify potential endogenous substrates for Medicago truncatula FAAH1 (MtFAAH1).

Metal-Organic Frameworks Housing Active Molecules as Bioinspired Catalysts

Description: This article asserts that the development of synthetic heterogeneous catalyst analogs, which may not only mimic enzymes to reproduce or even surpass their performance but also bypass their intrinsic limitations, is thus, desirable and has been extensively studied in the context of porous materials. The authors summarize the last 5 years of progress exploiting MOFs housing active molecules for substantial catalysis applications, including asymmetric reactions, CO2 conversion (reduction, cycloadd… more

Reduction of (pddi)Cr reveals redox noninnocence via C-C bond formation amidst competing electrophilicity: [(cpta)CrMen]- (n = 0, 1) and [(pta)Cr]-

Description: This article describes how reversible cyclopropane formation is probed as a means of redox noninnocence in diimine/diamide chelates via reduction and complex anion formation. Competition from imine attack renders complications in the latter approach, and electrochemical measurements with calculational support provide the rationale.

Investigating environmental effects on phonology using diachronic models

Description: This article builds on previous work that has proposed various mechanisms by which the environment may affect the emergency of linguistic features. The authors take a casual inference approach to criticisms of these proposals to design a detailed test. This study shows how using causal inference approaches lets allows for testing complex causal claims about the cultural evolution of language.
