Fabricating vanadium sheet to improve symmetry of drawn parts

Description: The degree of anisotropy in vanadium sheet determines the amount of earing in formed parts and relates to the roundness of the formed part. Experiments with annealing and rolling practices to produce vanadium sheet were undertaken to reduce the earing tendencies of the metal. Earing in formed vanadium hemishells was reduced by cross rolling; and for unidirectionally rolled sheet, increased reduction per rolling pass and proper selection of intermediate annealing temperature reduced the earing. … more

The reaction of synthetic nuclear waste glass in steam and hydrothermal solution

Description: Glass monoliths of the WVCM 44, WVCM 50, SRL 165, and SRL 202 compositions were reacted in steam and in hydrothermal liquid at 200{degree}C. The glass reaction resulted in the formation of leached surface layers in both environments. The reaction in steam proceeds at a very low rate until precipitates form, after which the glass reaction proceeds at a greater rate. Precipitates were formed on all glass types reacted in steam. Development and application of a mathematical model for the benzene stripping columns in the In-Tank Precipitation (ITP) process

Description: A mathematical model characterizing the operation of the benzene stripping columns in the In-Tank Precipitation (ITP) process has been developed. The model was verified using operations data of two stripping columns, and the model predicted reasonable, conservative values of the height of a transfer unit (HTU) and outlet solute concentrations. Novel supports for coal liquefaction catalysts

Description: Cold model studies of the liquid fluidized bed microreactor are essentially complete. This report documents experimental data obtained for the optimum (60{degrees} blade angle) axial flow impeller in Gas/Liquid/Solid service. Description: We have examined changes in Argonne Premium samples of Wyodak coal following 30 min treatment in liquid water at autogenous pressures at 150{degrees}, 250{degrees}, and 350{degrees}C. In most runs the coal was initially dried at 60{degrees}C/1 torr/20 hr. The changes were monitored by pyrolysis field ionization mass spectrometry (py-FIMS) operating at 2.5{degrees}C/min from ambient to 500{degrees}C. Claymax landfill cap

Description: A commercial product called Claymax'' consisting of one-quarter inch of bentonite clay between two geotextile sheets is a candidate landfill cap to replace kaolin caps. A permeability apparatus incorporating a 20 foot water head was operated for 56 days to estimate a Claymax permeability of 2 {times} 10{sup {minus}9} cm/sec compared with 10{sup {minus}8}, the EPA max for a burial site cap. 1 fig.
