Analysis and Design Significance of A-11 Flow-Induced Vibration Test, Phases I and III

Description: Comparisons of the experimental data on seal pressure distributions obtained from the A-11 Flow Induced Vibration Test, Phases I and III, with analytical results including porous flow through the unimpregnated inner reflector cylinder for the same operating conditions show generally very good agreement. The principal deviations between analysis and experiment occurs when high pressure ratios exist across the last seal. Additional investigation, both in the relationship used in the analytical … more

Analysis and Design Significance of Nozzle Interface Seal Leakage Test Results

Description: The interface seal between the inner reflector cylinder and the nozzle flange prevents coolant flow from bypassing the reflector system and core and flowing directly from the reflector inlet plenum to the core exit.

CALCULATION OF THE SHOCK WAVE FROM AN UNDERGROUND NUCLEAR EXPLOSION IN GRANITE

Description: The capability of calculating the close-in effects of the shock wave from an underground nuclear explosion has been demonstrated. Agreement was obtained between calculation and measurements using a spherically symmetric, hydrodynamic, elastic-plastic code called SCC for the Hardhat event, a 5-kiloton nuclear detonation in granite. This capability is dependent upon having a more or less complete description of the elastic and dynamic properties of the materials involved. When this information is… more

Comparison of Analytical and Experimental Flow Induced Core Vibrations

Description: Comparison of analytical and experimental flow induced core vibrations has been made for all applicable tests performed to date. These include the KIWI B-4A and B-4B reactors, the KIWI PIE tests and the A-11 component tests. It can be concluded that the analog and experimental results are in good agreement. Similar calculations on the NRX-A reactor design indicate that vibrations will not occur.

COMPLEX SINGLE-NUCLEON STRIPPING AND PICKUP REACTIONS (/cap alpha/,t), (d,He$sup 3$), ETC.

Description: The use of the stripping reactions (sup 3/He,d), ( alpha ,t) and ( alpha ,/sup 3/He) and the inverse picknp reactions for level structure studies is considered, particularly the analysis of these reactions. Some plane-wave and distorted-wave analyses, mainly for the (d,/sup 3/He) and (/sup 3/He,d) reactions, are reviewed. (D.C.W.)

Computing Methods for Rover Reactors

Description: The numerical approximations to the diffusion and transport equations for neutron flux in a reactor are written as intervals in space and angle for each set of connected energy intervals. The coarse-grained mesh that results is adequate for a wide variety of reactor calculations if sufficient care is used for energy-group average neutron absorption and transfer coefficients; and if the equations, as functions of space and angle, are expressed in intervals and with boundary conditions appropriat… more

The Concentration Dependence of Zeolitic Sorption

Description: The concentration dependence of sorption rates of selected gases on chabazite has been determined and interpreted in terms of the various rate controlling mechanisms present. Argon and several other gases exhibit concentration independent activated diffusion into the bulk of the zeolite. Freon 21 occupies only the pores or crevices of the mineral, and the rates are controlled by Knudsen or gaseous bulk diffusion, depending on the concentration range. Finally, carbon dioxide sorption rates stron… more
