Early Tests on the BNL Mark II HPD

The Volatile Characteristics of Several Nitrosyl Fluoride Salts

Description: Results are reported of volatility studies using NOF gas and various uranium salts. The conditions of uranium volatilization were explored, and possible mechanisms of volatile transfer of uranium are discussed. The separation of uranium from Zr, fission products, and Pu by NOF volatilization in the Nitrofluor process is considered in detail.

Description: Samples from possible zoolite bearing deposits have been tested for cation exchange capacity using batch and column experiments. Pressure Pulses in Rapid Transient Boiling

Description: Investigation of whether the multi-thousand psi pressure pulses that occurred in the BORAX-I and SPERT-I destructive power excursion could have been generated by thermal mechanisms in the geometries of unmolten reactor cores. These pressure pulses were "at least as high as 6,000 psi, and probably higher than 10,000 psi " in BORAX I, and "between 3,000 and 4,000 lb/in" in SPERT I. An experimental investigation was undertaken of pressure pulse generation by purely thermal means.

Water Spectra and Energy Exchange Kernels

Arc-fused powder and sintered pellets were used to determine the rate of evolution and types of residual gases as a function of temperature.
