Decontamination of the KER Rupture Experiment Loop Test Series B - Tests No. 1 and 2

Description: The first series tests in the KER-REP-1 loop proved that a fisssion product contaminated loop could be decontaminated to a safe level for contact maintenance. The second series of tests ere scheduled for a more thorough evaluation of these processes includes specific decontamination factors, process corrosion rates, loop activity reduction factors (loop decontamination factors), and any preferential decontamination which may be present.

Electrical Insulation Characteristics of Helium Gas at High Pressure and Temperatures

Description: Published information is not available for accurate prediction of the electrical insulating characteristics of helium at high pressures and temperatures. In general the breakdown voltage increases as the gas pressure is increased and decreases as the gas temperature is increased. Exploration of Radiometric Methods

Description: The compilation of possible analyses in aqueous solution is nearly complete. A chart has been constructed showing the elements which may be determined radiometrically. Fuel Cycle Cost for Aqueous Homogeneous Reactors

Description: By using a large central fuel and blanket reprocessing facility, slurry-fueled aqueous homogeneous reactors can attain an estimated minimum fuel cycle cost of 1.4-1.6 mills/kwh; with solution-fueled two-region reactors, a doubling time of 14 years may be obtained at a fuel cycle cost of 2.0 mills/kwh. Leaching of RAINIER Debris

Description: The possibility of series ground water contamination is an important consideration in the peaceful application of contained nuclear explosions . A series of leasing tests were performed on RAINIER debris to established the extent of ground water contamination which would result from such debris. Low-Energy [pi] Mesons in the Cosmic Radiation

Description: The intensity of 𝜋 mesons in the atmosphere is investigated in the energy region 𝐸kin≲50 Mev at sea level and at mountain altitudes. Positive 𝜋 mesons coming to rest in an absorber-scintillator are identified by the characteristic 𝜋−𝜇 decay. They are detected electronically and recorded photographically. Description: The following is an attempt to explain the method by which the precision associated with an observed volume reading in a process vessel (E-12, C-1) should be calculated based upon a regression analysis of cumulative data. There are two types of volume measurement consists of estimating the total volume in a vessel at some inventory time. A transfer measurement consists of estimating the volume between two levels within a tank.

Results of production test IP-206-CE in pile tests of boron stainless steel splines

Description: A solid spline made of 430 boron stainless steel was tested in tube 2451 at D Reactor. The test was conducted to compare the boron carbide filled hollow aluminum spline presently used with a solid steel spline which is being considered as a substitute. Usage of hollow splines has shown that a solid rugged spline would be highly desirable.
