Strength of Ore and Top Rock in the Red Iron-Ore Mines of the Birmingham District, Ala.

Description: Report presenting the results of a study assessing the strength of the ore and top rock in the hematite mines of the Birmingham district along with an assessment of the size of pillars adequate to support the roof as the mines grow deeper. Occurrence, compressive strength, transverse strength, and elasticity of ore and top rock are examined.
