The reactive scattering of the reaction of the first excited state of C/sup +/ (/sup 4/P) with molecular hydrogen was studied over an energy range of 0.5 to 9.0 eV. The measurements indicate that the reaction proceeded by a direct mechanism and the final product was in the a/sup 3/pi state. The reaction of ground-state C/sup +/(/sup 2/P) with D/sub 2/ and H/sub 2/ was examined over the energy range of 2.5 eV to 28 eV.
