Vernatherm functional test, Test Project No. 14

Description: The Vernatherm unit is a temperature sensitive capsule which translates temperature change to mechanical movement of a brass plunger. A change in phase of a hydrocarbon contained in a cylinder caused by temperature change, causes movement of the brass plunger. The units are available for various temperature ranges. The adaptation considered was to monitor the outlet water temperature from individual process tubes in the ``G`` pile. The purpose of the test was to determine the magnitude of error… more

Insulating webbing between thermal shield and graphite reflector

Description: The purpose of this document is to present the bases and calculations which resulted in the conclusion given in the letter of October 17. Also, the original calculations were made on the basis that the webbing face thickness is equal to 1/2 inch, which is no longer the case. The new thickness is 3/4 inch. This alters the condition of heat generation. Consideration is given to the heat generation in the legs.

Technical Progress Letter

Description: It was agreed at the February, 1951 meeting of the Atomic Energy Commission Technical Information Panel that, wherever practical, progress reports should periodically include a list of previous reports issued in the same series. Such a list would greatly facilitate servicing by installation document rooms since requests are frequently received for reports in a specific series. This report lists the Technical Progress Letters from 1944 to date, and is distributed to recipients of the Letters in … more

Uranium Deposits on Mesas I 1/2 and II 1/2, Lukachukai Mountains, Northeast Arizona

Description: Abstract: Mesas 1 1/2 and II 1/2 were investigated in October 1951, to determine the extent and degree of uranium mineralization in the Salt Wash sandstone. Carnotite-vanoxite-type minerals are sufficiently concentrated to recommend 14,600 feet of drilling.

Process considerations additional product concentration facilities in 202-S

Description: This memorandum discusses investigations concerning the coupling step required to adapt a Redox IIBP to a 234-5 feed which have indicated that a single peroxide strike from a solution 50--60 g./1. in product and about 2 M in nitric acid is adequate. Additional work is planned to demonstrate both peroxide and Pu(IV) oxalate strikes under these conditions. The present Redox PR cage product contains 10 g./1. in product and over 500 g./1. in nitric acid, and probably requires tow peroxide strikes; … more

FURTHER RESULTS ON THE PRODUCTION OF NEUTRAL MESONS BY PHOTONS

Description: Further measurements have been made on the photoproduction of neutral mesons using the gamma-gamma coincidence technique. New data have been obtained on the gamma-gamma correlation curves in beryllium. The angular distribution of the photo mesons in Be has been determined and found to be strongly peaked forward. The dependence on the atomic number A of production has been found to obey an A{sup2/3} law. Some data obtained for production in hydrogen show that the pi-zero and pi-plus production c… more
