The Scandium-Yttrium and Scandium-Zirconium System

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The scandium-yttrium and scandium-zirconium were studied by thermal and x-ray methods. Both systems are characterized by complete solid solubility in the low temperature hexagonal form and in the high temperature bcc form. In the Sc-Y system, there is a minimum in the solidus at 50 at. pct and 1365°C, while the solidus in the Sc-Zr system follows a nearly straight line relationship between the melting point of scandium and zirconium. There is a minimum in the … more

Study of Metal-1.10-Phenanthroline Complex Equilibria by Potentiometric Measurement

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The silver-1,10-phenanthroline system has been studied and the stability constants determined for the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes using the silver electrode. This known system was then used to study the complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline with other metals. The log βn values found for the over-all stoichiometric stability constants are as follows: Ag, 5.02, 12.07; Mn, 3.88, 7.04, 10.11; Cd, 5.93, 10.52, 14.30; Zn, 6.83, 12.05, 16.92. The stoichiometric stability consta… more

The Enhancement of Acidity of Very Weak Acids in Tertiary Butyl Alcohol

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The acidity of a solution of acid, HX, and salt, MX, is affected by both the concentration of X- and M+ owing to incomplete dissociation of the salt, MX. it was possible to increase the acidity of a solution of 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol - tetrabutylammonium 2,6-di-tert-butylphenolate relative to a dilute solution of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide by increasing the tetrabutylammonium bromide content. This indicates that the dissociation constant of the hydroxide ba… more

EOCR Control Rod and Driver Fuel Hydraulic Tests

Description: Report discussing the results of experiments on an EOCR prototype control rod, control rod drive, and driver fuel assembly that were extensively tested in 500 deg F Santowax and 132 deg F water. These tests not only established the operating characteristics of these assemblies but also revealed a number of deficiencies in the various components. It includes descriptions of the control rod, control rod drive, and driver fuel assembly together with descriptions of their method of operation.

Separation and Spectrophotometric Determination of Rare Earths

Description: Technical report. From Summary : "At the present time arsenazo appears to be widely used for the spectrophotometric determination of rare earths. Unfortunately, the method is not selective. The separation of rare earths and yttrium from interfering elements has been studied, and the following method has been proposed. Rare earths are precipitated as fluorides using fluorides using calcium fluoride as the carrier. Thorium and zirconium are removed by extraction with thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA)… more

III. Crystalline Complexes of Bis(Di-2-Ethylbutylphosphinyl) Methahe With Uranium(VI) Nitrate and With Thorium Nitrate

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "Bis(di-2-ethylbutylphosphinyl)methane, EBDPM, forms complexes with uranium (VI) nitrate and thorium (IV) nitrate in which EBDPM acts as a bidentate ligand and the nitrato groups appear to be coordinated. The complex with uranium (VI) is a monomer, UO2(NO3)29EBDPM), while the complex with thorium in a dimer, [Th(NO3)4]2(EBDPM)3. Both complexes are of high thermal stability."

Vilcabamba Uranium Deposits, Cuzco Department, Peru

Description: Abstract: In 1957 uranium was discovered in the Vilcabamba district on the north flank of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, part of the Cordillera Oriental. This district contains principally small copper-nickel veins. Small lenses of uraninite occur in calcite veins cutting Permian Copacabana limestone. Uranium is most abundant marginal to centers of strongest copper-nickel mineralization. Leaching and oxidation are virtually absent because of Pleistocene glaciation. Four separate areas in which uran… more
