Ideal Gas Thermodynamic Functions and Isotope Exchange Functions for the Diatomic Hydrides, Deuterides, and Tritides

Description: From Abstract: "This Monograph contains a consistent set of tables of thermodynamic properties of a large number of diatomic hydrides, deuterides, and tritides, for the ideal gas state at one atmosphere pressure. In addition to the thermodynamic properties of the molecular gases, the tables also include thermodynamic properties for chemical reactions involving the isotopic exchange of hydrogen."

Stimulation of the corneal blinking reflex by ionizing radiation

Description: Accelerated alpha particles from the Berkeley heavy-ion linear accelerator were used in a series of experiments designed to elucidate the conditions by which radiation can stimulate or modify nerve action in mammals. Single millisecond pulses in excess of 40,000 radsor pulse trains of less than 1 sec duration elicited the corneal blinking reflex when delivered to the cornea of unanesthetized rabbits. The lowest threshold dose was observed when the Bragg ionization peak was placed at 140 {mu} de… more

Report of trip to YTS - C91 test projectile

Description: As a part of the RAIL feasibility study, Operation Dorothe (March 1961) was conducted to determine if a liquid explosive could survive the acceleration of launch from a 155 mm howitzer. This operation was successful, although some structural difficulty was experienced with the test round (C-90). Upon completion of that exercise, it was decided to design a test round that could be used with the more viscous slurry-type explosives, and to fire several of these new rounds with inert filler prior t… more

High Explosive Crater Studies: Desert Alluvium

Description: From abstract: Crater dimensions have been determined for 23 explosions of 256-pound spherical TNT charges buried in desert alluvium. As opposed to previous work covering depths of burst as great as 6 feet, the work presented in this report extends knowledge of apparent crater radius and depth to depths of burst as great as 30 feet.

On the Mechanism of Yielding and Flow in Iron

Description: The activation energy, activation volume, snd frequency factor were evaluated for yielding (delay time for yielding, upper yield stress, lower yield stress, and Luders band propagation) and flow (friction stress, flow stress, and dislocation mobility) for various irons and steels from data in the literature. It was found that the values of these flow parameters and their stress dependence were the same, within experimental error, for both yielding and flow, and for all the materials considered.… more

THORIUM BREEDER REACTOR EVALUATION. PART I. FUEL YIELD AND FUEL CYCLE COSTS IN FIVE THERMAL BREEDERS. APPENDICES

Description: The performances of aqueous-homogeneous (AHBR), molten-salt (MSBR), liquid-bismuth (LBBR), gas-cooled graphite-moderated (GCBR), and deuterium- moderated gascooled (DGBR) breeder reactors were evaluated in respect to fuel yield, fuel cycle costs, and development status. A net electrical plant capability of 1000 Mwe was selected with continuous processing of fuel and fertile streams. The maximum annual fuel yields were 16, 7, 4, 4, and 4.5%/yr, respectively at a fuel cycle cost of 1.5 mills/kwhr… more

RADIOISOTOPE AND RADIATION APPLICATIONS. Quarterly Progress Report

Description: Results of the final dynamic experiments with the ironremoval process model using Fe/sup 59/ indicated that the intrinsic-radiotracer method is rapid, accurate, and suitable for continuous readout. Results from both static and dynamic experiments on the use of Mn/sup 54/ to aid in removing manganese from process water indicated that intrinsic radiotracers can be used to help remove low-concentration critical impurities. One phase of the hazards evaluation was concerned with the ingestion of rad… more
