Measurement of the Polarization in Elastic Electron ProtonScattering

Description: We have measured the (illegible) scattering (?-illegible) of electrons (?-illegible) from a polarized proton target. (illegible) between (?-illegible) imaginary part of the two-photon-(illegible) (illegible) photon-exchange amplitude could produce (?-illegible) (illegible) results indicate no asymmetry within (illegible) 1 to 2% at four(?-illegible)-momentum transfer (illegible) (illegible) 0.98 (GeV/c){sup 2}.

Plutonium research program, fiscal year 1970

Description: This report contains a compilation of unclassified plutonium programs underway in FY 1970 in the field of materials science. It includes work in ceramics, metallurgy, solid state physics and physical chemistry. Information on each of the programs is given in five sub-headings: scope of the work; technical effort in manyears; primary class of materials studied; person(s) to contact for further information; and reports and publications. All the work listed is restricted to either research or long range development and not applied or hardware-type projects.

Prelimiary investigation desalting of geothermal brines in the Imperial Valley of California

Description: The Imperial Valley Project is an applied research program to provide geologic, hydrologic, engineering, and economic information necessary for development of the geothermal resources of the delta of the lower Colorado River. It is suggested that a desalting pilot plant be associated with the project to develop an economic desalting process if 2 to 3% geothermal brine is produced. The process will be unconventional in that waste heat must be rejected to atmosphere in wet or dry cooling towers. The presence of large amounts of CO/sub 2/, H/sub 2/S, and silica will require gas removal and silicascale control equipment. The plant would process up to 75,000 gallons of brine per day. (MCW)

Research and Development in the Computer and Information Sciences: [Part] 1. Information Acquistion, Sensing, and Input: A Selective Literature Review

Description: From Introduction: "This report is the first of a series intended to provide a selective overview of research and development efforts and requirements in the somewhat overlapping fields of the computer and information sciences and technologies. The projected series of reports will attempt to outline the probable range of R & D activities in the computer and information sciences and technologies through selective reviews of the literature and to develop a reasonable consensus with respect to the opinions of workers in these and potentially related fields as to areas of continuing R & D concern for research program planning or review in these areas."

Savannah River Plant engineering, design, and construction history of ``S`` projects and other work, January 1961--December 1964. Volume 2

Description: The work described in this volume of ``S`` Projects History is an extension of the type of work described in Volume I. E.I. du Pont de flemours & Company had entered into Contract AT (07-2)-l with the United States Atomic Energy Commission to develop, design, construct, install, and operate facilities to produce heavy water, fissionable materials, and related products. Under this contract,, Du Pont constructed and operated the Savannah River Plant. The engineering, design, and construction for most of the larger ``S`` projects was performed by the Engineering DeDartment. For some of the large and many of the smaller projects the Engineering Department was responsible only for the construction because the Atomic Energy Division (AED) of the Explosives Department handled the other phases. The Engineering Department Costruction Division also performed the physical work for many of the plant work orders. This volume includes a general description of the Du Pont Engineering Department activities pertaining to the engineering, design, and construction of the ``S`` projects at the Savannah River Plant; brief summaries of the projects and principal work requests; and supplementary informaticn on a few subjects in Volume I for which final data was not available at the closing date. Projects and other plant engineering work which were handled entirely by the Explosives Department -- AED are not included in this history.

SEARCH FOR T-VIOLATION IN THE INELASTIC SCATTERING OF ELECTRONSFROM A POLARIZED PROTON TARGET

Description: The authors have searched for an asymmetry in the inelastic scattering of electrons from a polarized proton target in the region of resonance excitation, at values of four-momentum transfer squared of 0.4, 0.6 and 1.0 (GeV/c){sup 2}. Data were also taken using an incident positron beam in order to distinguish any possible effect of time-reversal violation from that due to higher-order ({alpha}{sup 3}) contributions to the scattering. No sizeable violation of time-reversal invariance was found.

Study of Proton Hole States in 1f/sub 7/2/ Nuclei by the (p,2p) Reaction at 46 MeV

Description: Proton hole states in the 1f/sub 7/2/ nuclei /sup 46/Ti, /sup 54/Fe, /sup 56/Fe, /sup 58/Ni, and /sup 60/Ni have been studied with the (p,2p) reaction with 46-MeV protons. The measured binding energies and angular correlations are consistent with the binding energies and orbital angular momentum assignments (1f/sub 7/2/, 2s/sub 1/2/, and 1d/sub 3/2/) obtained from proton pick-up reactions. 3 figures, 1 table.
