Evaluated Nuclear Structure data file: a manual for preparation of data sets

Description: A standard input format for nuclear structure data is described. The format is sufficiently structured that bulk data can be entered efficiently. At the same time, the structure is open-ended and can accommodate most measured or deduced quantities that yield nuclear structure information. (JFP)

Coulomb-nuclear interference corrections to measurements of the pp total cross-section difference in pure spin states. [Scattering amplitudes]

Description: It is pointed out that corrections due to the Coulomb-nuclear interference could amount to an order of 1 to 2 mb at P/sub lab/ around 1 GeV/c in recently performed measurements of the pp-total cross section difference in pure spin states.

Integrated mined-area reclamation and land-use planning. Volume 3C. A case study of surface mining and reclamation planning: Georgia Kaolin Company Clay Mines, Washington County, Georgia

Description: This case study examines the reclamation practices of the Georgia Kaolin's American Industrial Clay Company Division, a kaolin producer centered in Twiggs, Washington, and Wilkinson Counties, Georgia. The State of Georgia accounts for more than one-fourth of the world's kaolin production and about three-fourths of U.S. kaolin output. The mining of kaolin in Georgia illustrates the effects of mining and reclaiming lands disturbed by area surface mining. The disturbed areas are reclaime… more

Well posed boundary value problem in transonic gas dynamics. [Tricomi equation]

Description: A boundary-value problem for the Tricomi equation is studied in connection with transonic gas dynamics. The transformed equation ..delta..u + (1/3 Y) u/sub Y/ = 0 in canonical coordinates is considered in the complex domain of two independent complex variables. A boundary-value problem is then set by prescribing the real part of the solution on the boundary of the real unit circle. The Dirichlet problem in the upper unit semicircle with vanishing values of the solution at Y = 0 is solved explic… more

Mechanical engineering and design criteria for the Magnetically Insulated Transmission Experiment Accelerator

Description: A single-unit electron beam accelerator was designed, fabricated, and assembled in Sandia's Technical Area V to conduct magnetically insulated transmission experiments. Results of these experiments will be utilized in the future design of larger, more complex accelerators. This design makes optimum use of existing facilities and equipment. When designing new components, possible future applications were considered as well as compatibility with existing facilities and hardware.

Dual-beam, charged-particle irradiation facility for simulation of nuclear environment

Description: Heavy-ion bombardment provides a method for simulating neutron damage to metals and other materials. Simultaneous implantation of He/sup +/ ions allows the study of effects of neutronically generated helium in these samples. A 2-MeV Van de Graaff and a 2-MeV tandem accelerator at Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories (PNL) have been combined to provide dual-beam irradiation with heavy ions, Ni/sup + +/ or Ta/sup + +/, and with He/sup +/ ions. This irradiation facility allows independent cont… more

High purity electrochemical experimental system

Description: A closed system is described in which freshly purified water and gases may be directed into a sealed test cell for electrochemical studies which require conditions of ultra high purity. The apparatus consists of purification trains for He, H/sub 2/, and O/sub 2/ gases, an in-situ still for repeated distillation of large quantities of water, and a well-sealed test cell which maintains the high-purity conditions during extended electrochemical experiments. The apparatus features quartz and teflon… more
