Third Form of Bismuth Phosphate - X-ray Study

Description: Abstract. In addition to the hexagonal and monoclinic bismuth phosphate precipitates, whose structures are now known, a third crystalline phase has been found to appear in BiPO4 precipitates after (a) extremely long digestion in concentrated nitric acid; (b) oven drying at 800 degrees to 1000 degrees. Thought very small single crystals of the component have been isolated, nor crushed sample contained less than 30% of the beta-form. The cell size and symmetry of the crystal indicates that the… more

Analysis of Uranium-Nicked Alloys

Description: Abstract. Methods for determination of both uranium and nickel in solutions of these metals are described. Alloys can be dissolved in nitric acid treated with citric acid to complex the uranium, and the nickel precipitated as nicked dimethylglyoxime. The uranium is reduced and titrated with standard ceric sulfate. These methods are for the determination of macro amounts of uranium and nickel with errors on the order of 0.1%.

Activities in Process Water

Description: The recycling of the process water through the active region of the reactor produces radioactivity in the process water. The source of this radioactivity if (1) activation of dissolved salts in the water, (2) activation of the water itself, (3) activation of the corrosion products, (4) corrosion of active meta and (5) metal recoils from the surface of the reactor. After processes to reduce the radiation level, the activity discharged to the river amounts to 0.468 micro-curie per liter. This all… more
