Children’s Health and the Environment in North America, Country Report: United States.

Description: Children under the age of 18 accounted for about 26 percent of the US population, with approximately 72 million children in 2000. Over the last decade, the overall well-being of America's children has shown gains in some areas but has declined in others. The teen birth rate is at a new low, youth are less likely to become the victims of violent crimes, and the death rate has declined for children and young teens.

Monarch Butterfly Monitoring in North America

Strategic Directions for the Conservation of Biodiversity Regional Approach

Description: In 1997, the Council of the CEC initiated a review of the North American Agreement for Environmental Cooperation and the effectiveness of the Commission in its implementation of the agreement. As a result of this review, the Council decided that a strategic approach and a more narrow focus were needed. Subsequently, a project to define the focus and long-term agenda of the CEC’s biodiversity program was approved by Council in late 1999.
