Studies on the Purification and Phosphorylation of Phosphofructokinase from Ascaris suum

Description: A new procedure has been developed to concentrate the phosphofructokinase from muscle of Ascaris suum with minimum loss of activity. By utilizing this method, 50 ml fraction was concentrated to a final volume of 3 ml in about 1.5 h without loss in enzyme activity. The concentrated enzyme had a specific activity of 64 units per mg. Algorithms of Schensted and Hillman-Grassl and Operations on Standard Bitableaux

Description: In this thesis, we describe Schensted's algorithm for finding the length of a longest increasing subsequence of a finite sequence. Schensted's algorithm also constructs a bijection between permutations of the first N natural numbers and standard bitableaux of size N. Description: Twenty-four teachers completed questionnaires and demographic data forms to describe the types of books they chose most often, where they got them, how they selected them, and how important they felt it was to expose children to good literature. Axiom of Choice Equivalences and Some Applications

Description: In this paper several equivalences of the axiom of choice are examined. In particular, the axiom of choice, Zorn's lemma, Tukey's lemma, the Hausdorff maximal principle, and the well-ordering theorem are shown to be equivalent. Cardinal and ordinal number theory is also studied. The Schroder-Bernstein theorem is proven and used in establishing order results for cardinal numbers. Drumming Behavior of Selected North American Stoneflies (Plecoptera)

Description: Drumming is first described for five North American stonefly species, Acroneuria evoluta, Doroneuria baumanni, Isoperla namata, Chernokrilus misnomus, and Pictetiella expansa. Signals of Acroneuria lycorias, Phasganophora capitata and Isoperla signata are further described. Drumming was not recorded from Amhinemura delosa. Purification and Studies of Methylglyoxal Reductase from Sheep Liver

Description: The objectives of these investigations were (1) the purification of MG reductase from sheep liver and (2) studies of some of its characteristics. MG reductase was purified 40 fold and showed a single band on SDS-PAGE. Molecular weight estimations with SDS-PAGE showed a molecular weight of 44,000; although gel filtration with Sephadex G-150 gave a molecular weight of 87,000 indicating that the enzyme might be a dimer. Nutritional Requirements of Corynebacterium poinsettiae

Description: In a minimal medium supplemented with glucose and yeast extract, the optimum pH for the growth of C. poinsettias was found to be 7.5. The organism requires thiamine, biotin, and pantothenic acid for growth. No absolute requirement was found for any amino acid, purine or pyrimidine although an amino acid mixture was stimulatory. A Comparison of Sight Word and Phonics Contingencies in the Remediation of Oral Reading and Comprehension

Description: A comparison of contingent word and phonics drilling exercises on oral reading errors was made and the effects of a work skipping contingency on reading comprehension were examined. A Comparison of PPVT and PPVT-R Scores of Mentally Retarded Adults

Description: The comparability of PPVT and PPVT-R scores among retarded adults were examined. The sample consisted of 96 clients, who had been previously diagnosed as mildly, moderately, or severely retarded.
