Parametrization of net radiation at the surface using data from the Wangara experiment

Description: Hourly Wangara boundary layer data (Clark et al., 1971) was used to substantiate previously derived empirical equations of the surface radiation budget. These equations only require measurements taken by a surface observer in order to be evaluated. A parameterization was made for infrared (IR) radiation. From this procedure, a residual radiation was obtained from the measured daytime net radiation data in order to approximate short wave (SW) radiation. Diurnal trends in radiation and other rela… more

Rule Utilization and Rule Shift: A Developmental Study

Description: Current rule-utilization research indicated that subjects successively tested multiple conceptual rules, available from natural preexperimental experience, to solve a sorting task. Prior results suggested that older subjects were more efficient in utilizing rules and shifting to unused rules, possibly due to the availability of more conceptual rules at higher age levels. The experimental groups consisted of third, fourth, sixth, ninth graders, and college students. Each of the five groups conta… more

Genotypic Handedness, Memory, and Cerebral Lateralization

Description: The relationship of current manual preference (phenotypic handedness) and family history of handedness (genotypic handedness) to memory for imageable stimuli was studied. The purpose of the study was to test the hypothesis that genotypic handedness was related to lessened cerebral lateralization of Paivio's (1969) dual memory systems. The structure of memory was not at issue, but the mediation of storage and retrieval in memory has been explained with reference to verbal or imaginal processes. … more

An Analysis of Labor Arbitration Hearing Procedures in the United States

Description: The problem is to determine whether there exists a common body of procedures being followed by labor/management arbitrators in the United States. The agreement to arbitrate grievance disputes is the quid pro quo for an agreement not to strike. Currently some 95 per cent of all United States labor agreements provide for arbitration as the final step in the grievance procedure. Arbitration has increased at a steady pace over the years. The American Arbitration Association reports a 330 per cent i… more

Coping with Underdepreciation in the Electric Utility Industry

Description: The purpose of this study is to examine a two-part hypothesis. The first part is that underdepreciation is the cause of serious financial problems which have beset investor-owned electric utilities in recent years. The second part is that depreciation adjusted for changes in the general level of prices would do much to alleviate these problems.

Stereochemical Studies of Nitrosamines: The Induced Circular Dichroism of Achiral Nitrosasmines

Description: The induced circular dichroism (ICD) of several chiral nitrosamines and various chiral reagents has been investigated. The interaction is attributed to a 1:1 hydrogen bonded complex between the NO group of the nitrosamine and the hydroxyl groups of alcohols and polyols, or the amino group of amines. Only those chiral reagents possessing large differences in size of the groups about the hydrogen bonding site contributed to CD anomalies. The acyclic 2-octanols did not give observable Cotton effec… more

Pedro De Moctezuma and His Descendents (1521-1718)

Description: In 1521 a band of several hundred Spaniards overthrew the Aztec empire in Mexico and its ruler, Moctezuma II. This defeat in itself created a major cultural shock for the indigenious population, but the later arrival of Spanish officials and colonists constituted a far greater if less dramatic upheaval. For the victorious Spaniards rejected Aztec governmental institutions, considering them to be distinctly inferior, and quickly substituted their own. Moctezuma II and a substantial number of the… more
