Discontinuous Thermal Expansions and Phase Transformations in Crystals at Higher Temperatures

Description: The purpose of this investigation is to make more detailed studies of transformations. Fourteen compounds have been examined by high temperature X-ray diffraction for this purpose. The investigations have been carried out in such a way as to reveal: 1. the existence of transformations, 2. the influence of polarizability on thermal expansion, 3. the anisotropy of expansion, and 4. the discontinuity of thermal expansion.

An Experimental Verification, with Krypton, of the Theory of the Thermal Diffusion Column for Multicomponent Systems

Description: The extended form of the Jones and Furry theory, which describes the behavior of a multicomponent heavy isotopic gas in a Clusius-Dickel thermal diffusion column, is tested. Experimental and theoretical values of the thermal diffusion column transport equation coefficients Hsub{ik},Ksub{c}, and Ksub{d}, are determined for krypton, a heavy isotopic gas with six isotopes. The experiments are carried out in a column of the hotwire type, at three wire temperatures: Tsub{H}=350 degrees C, 500 degree… more

The Nature of Separation-Individuation and Attachment: A Psychometric Evaluation of Multiple Measures of Separation-Individuation and Attachment

Description: This paper examines the relationship between attachment and separation-individuation through a study completed with 358 students who completed self-reports and four instruments often used to assess attachment and separation-individuation. David T. George identifies three major relevant factors that resulted from analysis of the reports: Connectedness to Parents, Level of Distress, and Sense of Self.

Investigations on Abundance, Habits, and Distribution of Amphibians and Reptiles of Denton County, Texas

Description: The purpose of the present study of the herpetofauna was to obtain additional information regarding the vertebrates of Denton County, and to produce a well-preserved, cataloged collection of the amphibians and reptiles for the Museum of Zoology, North Texas State University. An understanding of the vertebrate life of the county also involves an investigation of the habitats within the county that may, in part, count for the distribution of these animals. It is well recognized that the environme… more
