Mugl Entsteigt

Description: Recording of Günther Rabl's Mugl Entsteigt. This piece awakens the ear with new and expressive sounds: dazzling lines, clusters of Argentinian sounds, a kind of organ with soft shapes, an ostinato with colors and tasty traces, all this intertwines with humor and vivacity in real tests of symphonic development where electro-acoustic musicians rarely succeed. The work reveals a temperament, which is rare, here as well as elsewhere.

Satumaisema

Description: Recording of Marja Vesterinen's Satumaisema ("Fairy-tale Landscape") performed by Marja Vesterinen. The piece begins with an image of empty space with strange unknown planets passing over the observer. A raw chord, formed from the interval of the third and produced with the aid of amplitude modulation, symbolizes the friction against the outer atmosphere as the traveler reaches the vicinity of the fairy-tale planet. Rondo (Bevor Ariadne kommt)

Description: Recording of Georg Katzer's Rondo (Bevor Ariadne kommt). This piece incorporates the dramatic use of sound materials such as noises, instrumental and synthesized sounds. These materials were treated in the style of a classic rondo with three themes that were then interwoven for compositional purposes. The contrasting central part consists of an assembly of sounds. At the end of the work, there appears a recitation of a child related to the title and the subject.

Darkness after Time's Colours

Description: Recording of Denis Smalley's Darkness after Time's Colours. The piece can be looked on as a vocal journey which passes through various 'ordeals' and encounters, hence the title's allusion to the journey down into Classical underworld. Natural Images

Wonders of the Invisible World

Description: Recording of David Koblitz's Wonders of the Invisible World. This piece is comprised of five brief, fragmentary sections in which strands of "imaginary musics" shift in and out of time like the half-remembered images of a dream. The work was composed in the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center (New York) during 1976, using both electronic and acoustic sources. Among the latter were viols, "prepared" guitar, sleighbells, brake drums, balaphon and kora (African instruments).

Metamorphosis III

Description: Recording of John Winiarz's Metamorphosis III. This piece is the last and most concise work from a series begun in 1974. The idea was inspired by an experimental film made by an artist friend in which the beautiful figure of a greyhound dog in flight is transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors and nebulous shapes.
