Positron-annihilation 2D-ACAR studies of disordered and defected alloys

Description: Theoretical and experimental progess in connection with 2D-ACAR positron annihilation studies of ordered, disordered, and defected alloys is discussed. We present, in particular, some of the recent developments concerning the electronic structure of disordered alloys, and the work in the area of annihilation from positrons trapped at vacancy-type defects in metals and alloys. The electronic structure and properties of a number of compounds are also discussed briefly; we comment specifically on … more

Science of materials progress report, July 1, 1975--June 30, 1976

Description: Research in Metallurgy and Ceramics included the investigation of the mechanical properties, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture of metals, alloys, and transition metal compounds; the investigation of the dynamic structure of water and electrolyte solutions at high temperature and pressure; and the investigation of the properties of oxides and of the magnetic properties of alloys. Solid state Physics research was focussed on the electronic properties of solids and on defects in crystal stru… more

Isotope effect in diffusion and its use in studies of metal oxides

Description: Application of the isotope mass effect in diffusion to the studies of defects and diffusion in nonstoichiometric metal oxides are presented. Experimental results on CoO, NiO, Fe/sub 1-x/O, and (Co,Ni)O solid solutions will be used in the discussion. 34 references, 8 figures.
