Predictive three dimensional modeling of Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in ignition-scale experiments

Description: The first three-dimensional (3D) simulations of a high power 0.351 {micro}m laser beam propagating through a high temperature hohlraum plasma are reported. We show that 3D linear kinetic modeling of Stimulated Brillouin scattering reproduces quantitatively the experimental measurements, provided it is coupled to detailed hydrodynamics simulation and a realistic description of the laser beam from its millimeter-size envelop down to the micron scale speckles. Measuring the Repassivation Potential of Alloy 22 Using the Potentiodynamic - Galvanostatic - Potentiostatic Method

Description: Traditionally, the susceptibility of Alloy 22 (N06022) to suffer crevice corrosion has been measured using the Cyclic Potentiodynamic Polarization (CPP) technique (ASTM G 61). When the alloy is not very susceptible to crevice corrosion, the values of repassivation potential obtained using the CPP technique are not highly reproducible. Minimizing emittance growth during H- injection in the AGS booster

Description: As part of the efforts to increase polarization and luminosity in RHIC during polarized proton operations we have modified the injection optics and stripping foil geometry in the AGS Booster in order to reduce the emittance growth during H{sup -} injection. In this paper we describe the modifications, the injection process, and present results from beam experiments.

Simulations on the AGS horizontal tune jump mechanism

Description: A new horizontal tune jump mechanism has been proposed to overcome the horizontal intrinsic resonances and preserve the polarization of the proton beam in the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) during the energy ramp. Exploring the Polarization of Gluons in the Nucleon.

Description: We give an overview of the current status of investigations of the polarization of gluons in the nucleon. Bunch Profiles in Rhic From Cni Polarimeter Target Scans.

Description: During the RHIC run-4 polarized proton operation, the intensity and polarization profiles were measured by scanning the Coulomb-nuclear interference (CNI) polarimeter targets across the beam. The scans reported here were all performed on flattop at beam momenta {approx}100 GeV/c, and all but one was a vertical scan, since several of the vertical polarimeter targets had broken by the time of the measurements. Polarization Studies of CdZnTe Detectors Using Synchrotron X-Ray Radiation.

Description: New results on the effects of small-scale defects on the charge-carrier transport in single-crystal CdZnTe (CZT) material were produced. We conducted detailed studies of the role of Te inclusions in CZT by employing a highly collimated synchrotron x-ray radiation source available at Brookhaven's National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS). Overview of nonintercepting beam-size monitoring with optical diffraction radiation

Description: The initial demonstrations over the last several years of the use of optical diffraction radiation (ODR) as nonintercepting electron-beam-parameter monitors are reviewed. Developments in both far-field imaging and near-field imaging are addressed for ODR generated by a metal plane with a slit aperture, a single metal plane, and two-plane interferences. Description: Advanced electronic magnetic resonance (EMR) methods are used to examine properties of coals, chars, and molecular species related to constituents of coal. Longitudinal Spin Transfer to Lambda and Lambda bar Hyperons in Polarized Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt s = 200 GeV

Description: The longitudinal spin transfer, D{sub LL}, from high energy polarized protons to {Lambda} and {bar {Lambda}} hypersons has been measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions at {radical}s = 200 GeV with the STAR detector at RHIC. Differences in Bulk Damage Probability Distributions Between Tripler and Z-Cuts of KDP and DKDP at 355 nm

Description: Over the course of testing a substantial number of KDP and DKDP crystals from rapid and conventional growth processes, we have discovered that there is a consistent difference in the value of the damage resistance between z-cut and tripler, x-cut and y-cut crystals for a given test fluence. This increase in damage probability for tripler, x and y-cut crystals is consistent for both conventional and rapid growth KDP as well as DKDP. Acceleration of Polarized Protons in the Ags With Two Helical Partial Snakes.

Description: The RHIC spin program requires 2 x 10{sup 11} proton/bunch with 70% polarization. As the injector to RHIC, AGS is the bottleneck for preserving polarization: there is no space for a full snake to overcome numerous depolarizing resonances.
