Survey of Nonmetallic Liquid Coolants for Nuclear-Power Piles

Description: A comprehensive survey of the literature was made in an effort to identify nonmetallic materials of possible usefulness as liquid coolants. Materials having maximum melting points of 1000 deg F and boiling points of l200 deg F were considered, but boiling points above 2200 deg F were preferred. Melting points, boiling points, densities, heat capacities, and thermal conductivities were tabulated. Correlations of heat-transfer data and of friction data for interrupted plane fins staggered in successive rows

Description: Report presenting data from five reference reports and correlate the available heat-transfer and friction data on plane fin surfaces that are interrupted and staggered in successive rows in the fluid-flow direction. A single heat-transfer correlation equation was obtained that satisfactory represents the heat-transfer data over the entire range of conditions investigated.

Heat-transfer and operating characteristics of aluminum forced-convection and stainless-steel natural-convection water-cooled single-stage turbines

Influence of tube-entrance configuration on average heat-transfer coefficients and friction factors for air flowing in an Inconel tube

Description: A heat-transfer investigation was conducted with air flowing through an electrically heated Inconel tube having either a long-approach or a right-angle-edge entrance, an inside diameter of 0.402 inch, and a length of 24 inches over a range of Reynolds numbers up to 375,000 and average inside-tube-wall temperatures up to 2000 degrees R. Extension of boundary-layer heat-transfer theory to cooled turbine blades

Description: An equation for average heat transfer of a surface was derived when the boundary layer changed from laminar to turbulent. Influences on the heat transfer through a laminar boundary layer of Mach number, temperature ratio (gas temperature divided by wall temperature), and exponents of gas-property temperature relations were shown to be relatively small for air with Mach numbers less than 2 and temperature ratios between 1 and 4.
